Knoxville Restaurants

They seem to be doing well. What's different that you see?

When they went to the L&N it changed for me. The quality went down and the prices up. While I agree it's a south Knox tradition, it's far from the best steak in ktown. Conners has it beat and for the price, Downtown Grill and brewery has a better ribeye and strip

I've passed Conners since moving back. Might give it try one day. I rarely get steak when I eat out. I like to try things that I can't or don't make very well.

I'm still a Peddler guy for steaks.

I realize its not a pinnacle of all that is steak when it comes to restaurants, but I just really like it.

Flemmings has the best burger in Knoxville. From 5-7pm you can get it for about $8 with a side of onion rings, you just have to sit at the bar. It's life-changing.

Ye Olde is another unimpressive and overrated restaurant.

It so not where close to the quality of steaks that you can get a high end steakhouse. It is no better than a Longhorn Steakhouse, but costs 30% more.

Some folks need to get out more often and enjoy some finer places to eat.

Everyone has their own opinion. IMO Ye Olde serves one of the better steaks that I have ate anywhere. They are a little expensive but serve a quality product.

The wife and I went to Longhorn about 2 weeks ago and we both decided we would not go back.

I haven't been in years but I use to go to The Grease Rack and The Fox and Hounds in Newport. Classy places, had to ring a door bell and someone would come to door and let you in, if they chose to. Both had great steaks. I haven't been in years. Last I heard the Grease Rack was only open a couple of day a week, may be closed now and the Fox and Hound changed owners and the quality went way down.

Oh really?

This sounds like its worth trying...

I worked at the hhgregg there in Turkey Creek and one of the staff members tried it. Within about 3 weeks the whole staff had gone there to get the burger and everyone was taking their lunch around 5pm. I swear by it. Especially if you dip the burger in the onion ring sauce.

What's the dress code?

I'm not sure you would call Ye Olde expensive. It is not on the same scale or level as Flemings, Ruths Chris or Mortons.

I wouldn't call it expensive. But, good doesn't have to be expensive. Looking at online menus, I'd call McDonald's, Wendy's, Burger King, Taco Bell, etc. ridiculously expensive for what they dole out. Everyone has their own tastes for different foods and venues. Some love the ambiance or cult following of some eateries, while others guard their wallet against chances of not meeting the car payment or mortgage for the month. Sometimes, a local long time hang out place may get better praise than some think deserved, but, the ones going there are getting their bucks worth or they wouldn't go. I dare say that some of us know people who go to Pizza Hut and think it's the best cuisine put on a table. It's just tastes preferences and matter of opinion and nothing more to me. A lot of good places to check out in the area, though. Hopefully, no one overlooks some of the hole in the wall places because some of them offer up great fare.

I don't know if I mentioned it in is thread, but I REALLY like Puleo's out at Cedar Bluff. The Shrimp 'N Grits is wonderful, and if you get it by 4pm it's like 11 bucks and worth every dime. Never had anything I didn't like, there. I got their shrimp po-boy a couple weeks ago and it was really good, too.

Puleo's is good. Ten years ago it was great. They started skimping on portions to maintain prices. Bad business imo.

It's probably better to rate plates instead of restaurants. Even a dud restaurant can have one great plate and even a great restaurant can have a dud plate.
