Knoxville Restaurants

Finally made it to Shuck last night. Our oysters and entrees were very good. They are proud of those little suckers, though! It was very slow...looked concerning for a beautiful Saturday night. We would have sat outside, but they have the same ridiculously-uncomfortable chairs as Nama.

You ought to try Lakeside Tavern, it's owned by the same company and it's right on the lake so it's got a great view. Same company also owns Bullfish(Pigeon Forge).

it?

Riverside Tavern, also. Near O.R.

Yes!

Doc, you mentioned Mother Earth Meats in the bacon thread. Thought I'd tell you we made it there the other day for the first time and bought some of their prime filets. Delicious! That stuff cuts like butter. We tried it for the first time one evening while at Connor's.

Since when?

Know all about Parkside and Lakeside...thought Riverside was gone after selling to Ruth's Chris

My parents live right beside riverside in OR I didn't know RC bought it...? I thought they leased that location from a real estate broker from OR...? Just 18 months ago it had same decor and staff but was called Flatwater Grille but they went under because the rent was too high, thats when new ownership was brought in along with name change.

No sorry, I meant the original Riverside Tavern that was in downtown Knoxville...now Ruth's Chris.

I looked up the Oak Ridge location and it's called Riverside Grille

They have some great stuff, but it sure isn't cheap! Prime beef is the real deal. The butcher at Fresh Market (which also gets some prime cuts from time to time) told me the other day that it is going to get very pricey with the hike in grain costs. Herds have gotten smaller and the availability of the best meat will decrease. The whole "supply and demand" thing, you know.

If you can ever get a whole tenderloin, that's the most cost-effective way to go, especially if you are serving 4-6 or more. Fresh Market will trim and cut it for you, and the tail makes great meat for stir frying, stroganoff, etc. I also noticed that Costco has some prime beef, similar in price.

Last time I was at Mother Earth, they actually had Kobe ribeyes. They looked fantastic, but I couldn't justify the $40/pound price tag!

Ate at the Smokey Mountain Brewery just a little bit ago with a gf of mine. Always good food! We shared the pretzels and beer cheese app which was really good. I got the chicken tenders which were really good and juicy. She got the Brewery Ale Steak with beer cheese broccoli and loaded mash potatoes.

I can't imagine the price going up anymore than it already is. That prime filet isn't cheap to begin with but gosh is it delicious.

We typically get a whole tenderloin and have it cut into filets at Sam's which are usually really good. They're far better than what you'd get at your typical grocery stores, surprisingly. We haven't tried Costco choice filets but I'll definitely have to look to see if they are carrying the prime.

I've been really turned back on to ribeye steaks, especially if well-marbled/prime. I just checked and it looks like Mother Earth has some right now. I prefer the bone-in cut, if available.

Grain Fed Beef - Prime Ribeye

That ribeye looks really good!

Turkey Creek. I have never liked the beer there. I had a chicken sandwich that was dry and very thin cut. Pizza overlooked. The burger was nowhere close to as good as copper cellar.

I can honestly say I've never had a good beer or good meal at Smokey Mtn Brewery

Agree 100%. I had a pizza there once that was decent, but there are at least 4 better options for pizza within 5 miles which serve other (significantly better) beer.

Which location(s)?

What did you order?

Calhoun's beers are pretty good, not great IMO

I prefer Calhoun's to Smokey Mtn

Funny you should mention that because they're actually the same company. Some of the menu items are even exactly the same. Calhoun's House Ale Steak is Brewery's Ale Steak. The ribs are the same. They brew the same beers. I LOVE the Black Bear Ale, it's my favorite.

I know they are the same that's why I said that.

What you might have run into with the beer as I have before..... It shouldn't happen but it does, where different guys start the brew and sometime they don't measure it out like they should. One time my Black Bear Ale was bitter where it normally isn't like that. That's when the bartender told me different people make the beers.

The porter in there is outstanding. I buy growlers of it all the time. The stout is good too when they decide to make it. I have never had a bad beer there after many samples. Not too excited about the food.

Yeah, my friend bought a Growler of Black Bear before she left. It's nice that you can bring it back and get a refill for cheap.
