Knoxville Restaurants

Ate on the patio at Lakeside tonight. The food is always solid, but nothing spectacular. It's sad there aren't more waterfront restaurants in town. It seems like such an obvious position...

ahh I know exactly who you mean, and we don't have a position of "head server," but he fills that role

Lol, for some reason that does not surprise me.

I've had this same thought on many occasions. Both the atmosphere of the inside of the restaurant and the surrounding area/view is great. The restaurant is definitely off the beaten path though. There is no shortage of waterfront land in the Knoxville area either so your guess is as good as mine. Seems like a waste.

You would think a place with quality seafood, Caribbean-flair, and live music on the water would kill it. It wouldn't even have to be super fancy. The restaurant at Choto is too far out of the way and can't ever get it right.

Willy's Bar and Grill? I've never actually been. You don't recommend it eh?
I drove down to Choto once years ago. Not a convenient place to try to get to. If you are a boater and dock there that's one thing.

Part of Lakeside's success is that they are run by a company that seems to know what it's doing. Diverse Concepts Limited(Parkside Grill, Bull Fish, Riverside Grill, Blue Moose, Harrisons).

Another one that could get in on a waterfront property is Blooming Brands Inc.(Outback, Carrabbas, Bonefish, Flemings).

We got take out from the new Dickey's barbeque in Turkey Creek. Not cheap, and they are a little slow (which is to be expected at startup), but it was dang good. My wife said she would actually eat brisket if it was all like that, the pulled que was great, the pintos with jalapeño were a notch above baked beans, okra was good, and the little mac and cheese I was left with (after my kids loaded up) was oh so cheesy.

Will be our go-to for Q, although I'll still hit Archers.

Roy's would be an awesome waterfront addition in Knoxville.

I have not eaten there before. Have you been to one?

i had to look because I didn't see it the other day on the Bloomin' website, apparently because they just sold Roy's chain to another company, United Ohana.

Yes, ate at the one in Tampa a couple of times during residency, but it's been years. It was amazing. They had fresh fish from Hawaii that I had never even heard of. I had no idea they had been sold.

Went to my local favorite mexican restaurant tonight, Don Gallo! They have updated their menu and added a few new dishes to the menu. I got the "battered shrimp tacos", which were amazing! Battered, fried shrimp topped with fresh mango, shredded red cabbage, pico de gallo, and cilantro served on 3 flour tortillas and served with a zesty green tomatillo sauce.

Did you make it home?

Is that the one in Karn's?

It's the Hardin Valley location. I guess it is the closest one to Karns High School though.

I also recommend Double Dogs(in the same complex) for games or just a good place to take a friend for an inexpensive meal. The food is pretty good and cheap as well as the drinks. I love to get their 6 boneless chicken wings and an order of fries, which is more than enough food for one person, and get out for $9. The chicken is always tender and juicy too.

Don Gallo's made my stomach do things no other Mexican place has ever done before or since. I was dating my wife at the time, and let's just say if that night didn't prove she loved me, then nothing would have. It was some great tasting food, but dang you got to take a whole bottle of Bean-o before you go. As she would say, I had a MAJOR case of the "tummy rumbles"! :focus:

Lol!

Was it the Hardin Valley one? How long ago?

We've literally eaten there countless times and none of us have ever had any problems. A couple people in my family have sensitive bowels too so that's saying something. You should consider giving it another chance.

It was the one in Hardin Valley, and it was about 3 years ago. I got the Especial Don Goyo. It was really good, but it turned me inside out.
