Knoxville Restaurants

Has anybody tried Dickey's BBQ Pit? There's one in Knoxville at Turkey Creek near the Best Buy.

I heard that there is another Ali Baba's at Downtown West and Kingston Pike in that shopping center at the SE corner. I haven't been by and don't know if it's at all affiliated with the original. I miss the original. I was there many a late night in that crowded little room. When they were ready to take another order they'd say "next please".

That was the original location. If someone else has moved in there and kept the same exact name that would be surprising.

Someone made a recommendation that if you are looking for a fair replacement try King Tut's or Holy Land Market. Has anyone been to either of these and what is your opinion?

I've driven by it several times going to the Brewery but I know it's a Dallas, TX based chain.

if it's the same chin, we have here
it's worth trying for lunch, they have daily specials that are pretty good, and they have free soft serve ice cream

I had a manager that used to bring us Ali Babas breakfast sandwiches. Talk about being worthless for a few hours after hammering a couple of those...

Holy Land and King Tut's are both legit. Neither is remotely close to the Alibob's vibe, but they've got good stuff. I know a lot of people that take out of towners to Tut's just for the experience (owner is kooky, etc).

Went there Monday. They have a special every night (Monday was a pork sandwich, 2 sides and a drink for like $7) and it was pretty good. Wouldn't be first on my list. The free ice cream is a plus.

The closest of those two to me is Holy Land Market on Southerland.

I don't remember Ali Baba's being anywhere other than across from Bearden High School. It was a "Time-Out" Deli at one point. There was another Time-Out at Hollywood and Sutherland around 1970. I think that there were others around town.

Made it to Sam and Andy's tonight and ordered take out. I got the steak in a sack and onion rings. The steak in a sack is absolutely delicious! It's two pita sacks and not just one huge one, which probably made it easier to eat. The onion rings were large enough to share, no way I could eat them all. They were actually very good, crunchy, and addictive! I will definitely be going back again. They have a Vol Burger I might try but I'm not sure how their Vol burger compares to Ali Baba's which everyone raved about.

The Vol Burger is incredible. They put some kind of flavor in the meat, not sure what it is but it's very good. Are they still cash only?

No, they broke down a few years back and started taking cards. The family split up over some huge fight and the brothers both own separate restaurants.

I went to the one in Farragut in the small shopping center next to El Mezcal. The older guy running the register is a cool dude, very nice. He told me to to grab a cup and get some free sweet tea while I waited.

I just happened to pay cash last night. They take cash, check, or there is an ATM on site that you can use. No credit cards.

What time? I'm at work until 530 and could stop by

We need to meet up and have lunch sometime on the weekend, but the wife wanted Mexican tonight instead, so we went to Cancun of Cedar Bluff.

I had the Burrito de Carne Asada, and it was excellent. Wife had the chicken chimichanga, and it was great as well. Cheese dip was on point, but the salsa was pedestrian. Service was the best I have had in a long time, regardless of type of food or restaurant.

I would give it a 9/10, and this was the first time we ever dined there.

Steve is the guy's name, if he's the white hair white mustache dude. Funny guy.

Sit down...new amazing restaurant find tonight. One visit, and it may be my new favorite in the area.

Took my wife to Citico's in Wind River (formerly Rarity Pointe) for anniversary dinner tonight. It is a former Parade of Homes residence that was bought by the developer and transformed into a small fine eatery and inn. One of the two-car garages was used to create the kitchen, but much of the house remains unchanged.

The restaurant is based on a "farm to table" concept, partnering with area suppliers. The menu is very creative, with a nice variety of salads, starters, and proteins. We shared a fried Brussels sprouts and pork belly appetizer (signature opening stanza), the bone-in veal chop, and a fresh catch dish of Hawaiian snapper. Everything was beautifully presented and superb. Great wine and spirits offering (thanks to the basement "lounge," which used to be the game room/bar area). The chef was very interactive and tended nicely to my wife's celiac need. The staff was attentive, albeit young, and very friendly. We were also offered a tour of the kitchen and much of the house.

There is also outdoor seating available, overlooking Tellico Lake, and the views are stunning.

Highly, highly recommended for a special occasion dinner or even a small dinner party.
