Knoxville Restaurants

Sit down...new amazing restaurant find tonight. One visit, and it may be my new favorite in the area.

Took my wife to Citico's in Wind River (formerly Rarity Pointe) for anniversary dinner tonight. It is a former Parade of Homes residence that was bought by the developer and transformed into a small fine eatery and inn. One of the two-car garages was used to create the kitchen, but much of the house remains unchanged.

The restaurant is based on a "farm to table" concept, partnering with area suppliers. The menu is very creative, with a nice variety of salads, starters, and proteins. We shared a fried Brussels sprouts and pork belly appetizer (signature opening stanza), the bone-in veal chop, and a fresh catch dish of Hawaiian snapper. Everything was beautifully presented and superb. Great wine and spirits offering (thanks to the basement "lounge," which used to be the game room/bar area). The chef was very interactive and tended nicely to my wife's celiac need. The staff was attentive, albeit young, and very friendly. We were also offered a tour of the kitchen and much of the house.

There is also outdoor seating available, overlooking Tellico Lake, and the views are stunning.

Highly, highly recommended for a special occasion dinner or even a small dinner party.

Happy Anniversary!

Are there any good healthy options in Knoxville or is there such a place?

The doc, wife nor my stomach is allowing me to dine on the good greasy food.

Not sure if you're looking more local or not, but Panera Bread and Jason's Deli are always good options for healthier food. Also me and the wife go to health food stores and pick up dinners occasionally (fresh market, earth fare, etc) and the Publix deli is some of the best deli food I've had.

No, but there are some on the website

Meh, none of those really showed the lake views.

Well, a lot of your menu's nowadays have a 500 calorie section. The other thing is to look for dishes like baked chicken, or dinner salads with sliced baked chicken. Like chatt-town said some of the sandwich places also have lower calorie, non-greasy selections as well.

Oh man, the spinach, and orzo salad as well as the dill, cucumber vinaigrette salad at Fresh Market are awesome. They also have an angel hair pasta salad with a hint of spice to it that's also good. Not sure about the health factor of those though. :)

I don't know if there is a Chickfila in Knoxville or not, but believe it or not their grilled chicken nuggets are a really healthy option. They have an 8 piece and a 12 piece. The 12 piece is only 200 calories, has over 30 grams of protein and tastes really good. It's also around $5 for just the nuggets. I don't eat fast food much but in a pinch on a long work day that is something I will do. I've also heard that you can order just a grilled chicken breast instead of the grilled nuggets as well. They also have grilled chicken sandwichs, but the bread adds a lot of extra unneeded calories so I haven't gotten one of those.

Oh yeah, plenty of Chick-fil-A's here.

Three Rivers Market on N. Central just north of the old Sears building has a hot bar every day. Expensive, but very good and very healthy food.

I'll have to check that out the next time I'm in town. My parents live very close to there.

Tomato Head, Zoe's Kitchen, and First Watch are the first that come to mind. You should be able to eat healthy at most any restaurant with a reasonable menu. Choose chicken, lean pork (tenderloin), or seafood, stay away from the fryer, and substitute salad or a vegetable for the starch. No sugar in your drink and no dessert and you're golden.

I like Zoe's Kitchen for an easy healthy meal. Their kabobs are really good.

Thanks for the replys. It appears I am going to have to stick with SOME salads, grilled fish and chicken, baked chicken and turkey. That is how I have been eating the last few months. It gets s little old, the ole man like's GOOD food. We went to O'charley's today, had the Santa Fe Tilapia with rice pilaf and salad. it was actually a pretty good meal.
I have discovered salads are not always a healthy option, many are loaded in fat.

Some other healthy options other than chicken would be shrimp (not fried), pork tenderloin, lean ground beef (atleast 90/10), lean cuts of steak such as NY Strip (just cut the excess fat off), bison, and veal. There are also low fat cheeses (Land O Lakes Slender is a good one) Sargento has low fat mozzarella cheese sticks that are 50 calories each (just have to be careful not to eat too many). Hopefully some of these give you a more options when you're cooking at home or go out to eat so it's not the same old thing every time.

This is true for some salads. Like some people think they're eating healthy by getting those prepackaged salads at places like Wendy's or wherever else but those salads are not only huge but tend to pack a lot of fat, sugar, and sodium. Most salads are healthy until you put the cheese, bacon, and dressing on them. Something we've been doing for a while is making our own dressing by mixing a nice extra virgin olive oil with a nice balsamic vinaigrette inside the salad bowl.
