Knoxville Restaurants

FYI: Docs on Kingston Pike across from the mall was sold to the folks that opened Hurricane on Lovell. So, it'll be closed a few weeks for remodel. Hopefully they turn that place into a good little bar.

That place it's always been a cocaine haven. Ever since desperadoes back in the day. Rays was the worst by far though.

Exactly. Michaels just migrated when it closed as well.

I'm hoping now that they've sold it to a new crew it'll get better. The old regime had been in charge under different names for the last 10-15 years trading debt around.

They screwed me out of a $50 gift card when they renamed it Doc's from Ray's ESG. Same people (Ray Struder as I understand).

Michael's was owned by some lawyers and pulled something similar... closed it and I think re-opened it with the former hostess listed as the owner. Didn't pay their 5 figure advertising bill. Might have stiffed all of their vendors.

Doesn't surprise me. They still own the spot Breakers used to be. Now that they are losing Docs it wouldn't surprise me to see the Breakers spot open back up.

I can only assume to turn it into a second location for Hurricane Grill and Wings?

I wouldn't guarantee it. A friend of mine serves there and she said they're a franchise, so the owners of that one might be wanting to do something different there.

Yeah I'm not sure who the original owners were of Wok Hay but Ruby Tuesday's doesn't seem to manage it's brands very well. The Wok Hay at Turkey Creek was also closed as well as their other concept Marlin and Ray's which used to be on Lovell Rd. now currently Hurrican Grill and Wings. I would have preferred Stir Fry Cafe to stay at the Turkey Creek location. They had great food and the Wednesday night sushi was always a great deal.

the same girl from the last post up there (^) told me that the building before, for a long time, was just there for Ruby Tuesday to test out concept after concept, including Marlin and Rays and that BBQ restaurant as well. The franchise group that opened Hurricanes, though, bought the building from Ruby Tuesday. So from here on, that place is Hurricanes

HOWEVER

it wouldn't be the worst thing at all for them to open the only chain wings restaurant not located in Turkey Creek

From what I've heard, the current GM of Docs is sticking around. So, not looking all that great for a total revamp to happen there.

she just told me "I think it's gonna stay Doc's" but also "They're looking at places in North Knox" for possibly a second Hurricanes

The molcajete at Meksiko was about as good as it gets last night. (And still at lunch today...)

Wish I knew. That's a long road from what I understand....

After looking, it's actually E Emory on the west side of 75 as well. Since they're gonna start developing that empty land right there west of 75 (a Kroger so far is all I know for sure), they might be part of that development

Yeah, someone else supposedly in the know told me that the original idea for Marlin and Ray's was to compete with Red Lobster. That's crazy to me in and of itself. While apparently it was holding it's own it wasn't competitive enough for RT's standards. That's when they closed Marlin and Rays and turned it into that BBQ place. I never went there myself and didn't hear much about it.

That's interesting. That must mean the one at Lovell Rd. is doing enough business to even consider the idea.

Doc, have you tried Don Gallo? I know you've mentioned before that your favorite mexican place was La Parilla. We went there and we all decided that the food at both places was equal in quality and flavor. It's why I wondered if you'd been there. They have a great beer battered shrimp taco dish with mango, and they also have a molcajete dish as well.

Have not, but that taco dish sounds great.

Altruda's is some darn good gluttony. Those rolls... That salad... Then the main course hits and wow. I definitely overate and am suffering for it... But I think it was worth it.

My family has been known to cook a meal and accompany the entree with take-out rolls and salad from Altruda's. :)
