Knoxville Restaurants

They are all good. Just go try them. Support the local economy when you show up in town.

Sweet Ps might be a bit more fancy and theme'd than Archer's stores. Archer has more variety of sauces. I love both.

I've been to Jacks near downtown in Nashville. I'd say it's more over the top and offers more variety than either Archers or Sweet Ps. But, the meat....I like ribs over here better than Jacks. Jacks has great variety of sides though.

I live in Nashville, and I frequent a lot of them. Jack's isn't my style. I've been to Sweet P's on Jackson once...meh. I have some friends in Knoxville that swear by it, tho.

No, not really. I'd be open to trying one in a couple of weeks, though :)

I can give you a ton of suggestions, doc. What part of town will you be staying in and are you a brisket or pork kind of guy?

I don't like BBQ sauce...of any sort. For that reason, I really focus on the quality of meat and how it was smoked. The beer selection and who's working the bar doesn't hurt things either.

As someone said earlier, it's all subjective when it comes to BBQ.

Both are great. IMO barbeque is a matter of taste. I like the sauces better at Sweet P's.

Have you been to Archer's different locations? Everyone seems to love Archer's, but the one I've gone to off Merchant's is inconsistent, and the last time I went it was flat out unimpressive.

It would be awesome if we could get a Rudy's BBQ like they have in Texas. Now that is some good BBQ.

Two weeks in a row now, we've went out to eat on Satuday night. Once at Littons, once at our local Mexican place. We had a crap experience both times thanks to kid's travel baseball/softball teams. Fanning out across 5 or 6 tables then running back and forth between them, the girls playing that Heads Up game on their phones while screaming, snotty parents running the wait staff to death, and the pitiful 30 minute process of trying to split up checks due to the kids ordering appetizers and entrees no one claimed to authorize.

This past Saturday, what I'm assuming was the lead Mother tied up the hostess for 20 minutes while she hemmmed and hawed over seating arrangements. Then, when it came time to seat the herd, 50% of them weren't even there. Ultimately, 2 of the tables they DEMANDED sat empty after the girls all piled into one table, but kept their drinks at the other ones.

Neither place was the Orangery, but good grief, what the hell is the matter with people any more? To the credit of both waiters we had, they tried to apologize for what was going on.

Also, La Fiesta on Western Ave is damn good Mexican (it's strip mall, Americanized Mexican, but it's good).

I played soccer when I was younger and we never did that. A random parent would be assigned snack duty and they would have to supply some sort of snack and drink for the team and that was the extent of it. I personally wouldn't do that to a restaurant, at last not with kids that age.

I mean, I totally get going out as a team. We did it alot when I was a kid (granted, usually to Mr. Gatti's or Quincy's).

But I was really surprised at the way both the kids and the parents acted. Did not care in the slightest about anybody else that happened to be there and treated the wait staff like crap.

I miss Quincy's.

You don't like M&M's? I won't rave about Buddy's actual bbq but they kill it in the hushpuppy department, seriously.

lol I edited M&Ms out of the post that I quoted as I've never been there

but I don't trust Buddy's and never will

Peg Leg Porker for ribs. Edley's for brisket, but only at lunch time.

It had been a few years since I have been there, it is a chain buy I have had some good BBQ at Jim'n Nick's on west side of Nashville off Charlotte Pike.

$6.95 for choice of braut on a bun with kraut and German potato salad at Linderfof is a nice lunch deal.
