Knoxville Restaurants

Stock and Barrel is a bit overplayed, IMO. It's not a bad burger, but for the price, I would like to have a bun that isn't mush by the time they bring it out. It tasted good, but I felt like I was eating just the burger itself.

I'm a big Sam and Andy's West and Fuddruckers burger guy myself.

I have never been to Sam and Andy's but imo Fuddruckers compares to a thick burger from Hardee's.

I do agree the bottom of the bun at Stock and Barrel could be improved, it is still the best burger I have ate in Knoxville.

Most of their burgers with fries are $10.50 -12.00.

Haha I was thinking the same thing about Fuddruckers. It's barely better than fast food.

That's actually an execution problem more than anything. It happens when they pull the burger right off the grill and set it on the bottom bun and all the juices drip into it. They should be letting it rest first. Had a similar experience at Connor's which mind you is an excellent burger aside from the one experience I had with the bottom bun.

Carolina ale house has some good burgers.

You must have been drunk as hell when you ate said burger.

I was less than impressed with Ale House's wings and haven't returned. I ate a wing from them at the Wing contest in World's Fair Park this summer and loved it, so they gave me a coupon for like...an app or something. Went in and got the wings because, well, I enjoyed the wing I had.

They were the worst wings I'd ever had at a restaurant, including Hooters.

I don't know what they did differently, but I haven't been back and doubt I ever will.

I had a very similar experience there too only with a different dish. I ordered the fish tacos and when the server brought it out the coleslaw juice was running out of the taco forming a pool on the plate. I was hungry and didn't want to deal with it by the time it arrived so I ate it anyway. It was about as appetizing as it appeared. I have absolutely no plans on ever returning voluntarily.

so update time from the Peerless/KTown Tavern

TVs have been hung! We're getting close. The beer bar is built. They're doing design around the exterior of the bar. Looks pretty nice and rustic-y with different wood panels. So far we've got the NFL package and I'm thinking they'll add NBA and MLB at some point.

I'm guessing we're about 2 weeks from opening the dining room back up. I'm super excited to get going, for sure

Not even close. :)

You have solidly convinced me to give it another try when you open up to full speed....now if you could get the NHL package

Awesome! I'm glad to hear that. The worst thing, if you like working at a place, is hearing that someone had an experience so bad (and out of character for the establishment) that they won't return.

Once we're going, the staff will be about 80% new, I'd guess. So if you had an issue with a specific server or didn't like the way something was made, odds are in your favor that that person is gone. While we're only open for banquets for the next week or 2, we're down to like 6 servers/bar staff. And only 3 of us have been with the restaurant longer than a year. And almost all of the kitchen staff has been replaced, top-to-bottom.

As for the NHL package, I'm gonna guess that's a longshot for now lol. As a bartender, I'll feel out the crowd. If I can say that people are requesting NHL on a regular basis, they will probably be talked into getting it. This is kind of a slow process for ownership as they've never run restaurants that deal with these packages. Seems like the subscription price broadsided them initially.

And I'll get some pictures taken Monday to throw up on here to give y'all some sneak peaks

Crusse it will be a few weeks before I can get three anyway with holiday plans and work and whatnot but I will try for sure. I work at a majority of the time at Turkey Creek so I'll stop by after work. Being solo, most likely I'll hit the bar

Anyone know where and when the Gus's Fried Chicken is planning on opening in Knoxville?

Gus’s Fried Chicken aims for Knoxville opening in early 2016 - News Sentinel Story
Gus’s Fried Chicken will open “early next year,” said Wendy McCrory, the company’s owner. The chain recently bought property on Sutherland Avenue, which is being assessed now for building needs, she said. Once complete, the restaurant will employ 45 to 50 people in a mix of full- and part-time positions.

Safe to assume SEC Network is already included, yes?

Coug, I may have missed it. If you don't mind what was your bad exp at Conners?

Just got a burger which would have been excellent aside from the soggy bottom bun. Bad experiences don't typically happen at Connors.

Was just going to ask for those, lol.

Yeah definitely on the SEC network, and I have one picture from a few days ago, but once I get a slightly more updated one Monday night, I'll post both to show a little progression

I agree Coug, I've always had great dining at Conners. Whenever I get out of work after 5 I'll just head over and eat instead of sit I traffic for an hour to get home

I really like the flooring. The garage style patio doors, you guys are going for the modern sports bar look. Is that going to be an outdoor patio? If so are they going to put a railing around it to separate it? Are they going to leave the ceiling open or put a drop style ceiling in? I think it'd be better to leave it open. A lot of places doing that just paint the raised ceiling black.

Regarding the ceiling, I'm not really sure. I expect a railing along the raised portion that you see at the bottom of the first picture. No way they can just have a huge step like that without either lots of caution signs or just a railing. And yeah, it's a patio. And there are TVs inside the garage door part.

Taking my girlfriend to Flemings this week for her birthday. Can't wait!

That is some really good eating but bring a fat wallet with you.

Everything is coming along nicely....but I gotta say, the K-Town logo looks horrible to me.

I wasn't going to say anything about it because I figure it wouldn't matter anyway.

The main sign looks like they mixed TN orange with Bama crimson.
