Knoxville Restaurants

Noticed that the west side of Maryville is getting a new Waffle House. Nothing against that kind of restaurant but why can't we at least get a steak and seafood restaurant?

Foothills Milling Co doesn't work for you? Sullivan's?

Discovered something great at Don Gallo, beer battered fries! Not an ordinary side item at a mexican restaurant by any means but fantastic none the less. They're the flat, steak style fries(which I'm typically not a fan of) but the crispy batter is what makes these fries. In the world of fries these have easily made the top of my list. Aside from their great mexican fare I also had a millionaire margarita which was deliciously strong.

Which Don Gallo location? tia

I'm sure Foothills Milling is a fine restaurant just a little too stuffy for me. Sullivan's is OK but would trade it for a Conners, Chop House, or even a Longhorn.

Interesting. I've never felt that FMC was "stuffy" at all.

Be careful what you wish for -- Longhorn is terrible.

If I'm wanting an ok piece of meat for not too much money, I have no issue with Longhorn. I don't hate their prime rib because it's tough to make prime rib poorly. Low and slow almost always makes for a good piece of meat.

And I'd much rather have Longhorn than any of the other moderately-priced national chains

Time I was there I had the PR and it was terrible. So was the side and my potato. It was more than Conners so ill never go back. Was about to come to Ktown tonight until I left my phone at work and had to go back. Oh well, next time

Oh, and I went by the new Ali Baba's and got a gyro and some fries to go. It was pretty delish

I never thought FMC was stuffy either. My sister recently visited Oliver Royal and apparently that place is the definition of stuffy.

How does the steak at KTown compare to Longhorn?

The meat is higher quality, so I'd contend the steaks are better. Nothing changed about the steak aging and preparation from the Peerless days. The only change to the steak selection in the transition was expanding the lower range (see: sirloins) and limiting the ounce options of the premium cuts. For instance, instead of being able to get a 6, 8, 10, or 13oz filet, there's just a 6oz and a 10oz now.

I may have been confused, I looked up the menu and the steak is a little cheaper but I thought I was charged sides a la carte. Wouldn't be the first time I was wrong

Tonight I went to Conners. Prime rib, salad, bread, loaded potato....28$

I never realized Peerless offered such a wide range of weights. Connors offers 6 or 9oz filets unless they have a special.

How are you guys doing? Have they implemented any changes or updated anything in the last couple months at KTown?

A la carte sides at Longhorn would be crazy.

I heard the same from a few people, so we tried it. Probably the worst ribeye I've had in 5 years and cooked irregularly. The salad was cut-rate, and whatever side I had was mediocre. I considered calling for a manager, but I really never do that. I over paid, left, and will not return.

On the same strip, you can eat at Conners, Cru, or Seasons and have a great meal for similar money.

New menus will be rolled out within 2 weeks, I'd assume. Some food stuff will be changed up, the beer list is being mixed up (keeping about 65% of the drafts and changing the rest) and I've heard that there will be a happy rolling out in about a week.

We're also turning over staff a little bit. Almost half of the bar staff was relieved of their duties last week alone.

I like Longhorn, not my favorite but good enough for me. I'm a meat and potatos guy, if I eat steak it's always a filet. Hard to screw up a filet and a loaded baked potato.

What kind of food changes are they making? Any word on flights?

That's crazy about the bar staff. Are they not vetting theirs hires very well?

They're altering how certain things were prepped beforehand and removing a few things that weren't selling. I'm not entirely sure what's being removed.

And as for the bar staff, it's not really that. Each was good at something, but unforseen issues ended up working against them. Like one was really good at making drinks, but the personability was lacking. Another was ok at drinks, good at managing a large area, but terrible being nice to a wide range of guests at the same time. Basically stuff you can't really know until you see it.

I haven't had it myself but I heard something about the beer cheese being gritty for some reason. I guess that's one of the adjustments. I'll have to get in there and give it a shot when the new menu comes out. I've only been in the one time for a beer but haven't tried the food.

"Selective niceness", I've met a few people like that in my day. :)
