KY loses 8 players--will the Vols take over the East?

Who would you trade from our team for Florida players? We also have experience returning.
Williams, Hopson, Tatum, Goins, Bone, Wooldridge, McBee all have experience playing in the SEC, not to mention Pearl.

I'd trade...

Mcbee for Boynton
Bone for Parsons
Woolridge for Macklin

On paper they are. Although I think they'll fall on their face under pressure. Probably what he's thinking, hence the pick.

I'm surprised people can't pick up on this. This has been going on since the beginning of time. You can never put too much pressure on a rival.

Exactly. I said the the same thing in the other thread. Its called COACHSPEAK. Saying Florida is the favorite does two things:

1) Takes a shot at Cal and UK indirectly...

2) Places a much bigger lump of expectations and pressure on UF to live up to its pre-season hype. Which as everyone knows, outside of the two year hiccup, they suck at doing.

Good move by Pearl, IMO.

I fully agree that is what Pearl was doing. I would much rather try to put pressure on Cal than Billy Boy. I would have talked about KY having talent that no one else could touch and how it would be almost impossible for them not to win the NC if I was doing Coachspeak. It's KY we're trying to catch, not FLA.

I certainly agree. I would trade our back-ups for their starters. I was actually talking about trading starters for their starters or back-ups for back-ups.

That's not what you said. But if we're trading Florida's known starters for our probable starters then I would take Parsons and Boynton over Hopson and Tatum. I'd also take Tyus over Williams. Harris and Goins are the only two PROBABLE starters I wouldn't trade.

What year did Thunder Dan Werner arrive in Gainesville? He was highly rated iirc. I'm thinking the BD struggles may have been caused by Thunder. He's gone now, they will inevitably be vastly improved from last year.

If Williams can play consistently as he did in the latter part of the season, I would not trade him. I, also, would not trade Hopson or Tatum. I look for Tatum to have a break through year as a starter and surely Hopson will finally live up to some of his hype.

Now that Cal may end up having to vacate last season, will the recruits that signed only grant-in-aids be going elsewhere? Is anyone shocked that the NCAA is investigating KY and the Bledsole recruitment?

These recruits don't care about last year's record. All they need is Cal at UK. Unless you're assuming Cal will leave if wins are vacated. In that case, yes.

So you don't think recruits care about records and winning? Cal can bring them in regardless of NCAA investigations and possible sanctions? I respectfully disagree.

How is last year's record going to help these recruits get to the NBA? That's why they're going to UK to play for Calipari.

I doubt they are going anywhere. Only if Cal goes elsewhere, will they split IMO. Also, Kentucky is not being investigated. If punishment is given, it will indeed affect UK, but UK and all staff have been cleared of any wrongdoing whatsoever, much to the chagrin of everyone.

MJ at KSR put up a great article about the situation, if anyone cares to read it.

Most of these kids will make the NBA regardless of where they play. It is absurd that Cal gets so much credit for putting kids in the NBA when they would not even be in college, but in the NBA except for the stupid one year rule.

Cal's just a good recruiter. Even though they're no always the most ethical practices, he somehow gets it done.

Interesting article with a KY slant, of course. Also interesting that Cal never knows about anything that involves an NCAA question. I've seen nothing at this point that indicates that UK and all staff have been cleared. You are the most realistic UK fan that has ever posted here and I respect you for that. However, when Cal was hired, his history would indicate that KY will always be on the verge of NCAA sanctions that Cal will know nothing about.

This must be the first time in NCAA history that the investigative staff is in the middle of an investigation and yet has already cleared a group of individuals.

Thats a fair statement. UK will also be subject to mutliple witch hunts and crusades against Calipari by journalists looking to make a big splash. These things go on at other programs and there is investigation, but they are minute compared to the scrutiny that faces this program with Cal here. It's the bed they made and they gotta sleep in it.

Something else interesting that just came out:

Now this is where it starts to get interesting. A source within the media tells me that a College Assistant Coach leaked Bledsoe’s transcripts to multiple media outlets, including his own. This follows the assumption of many in the Bledsoe camp who have assumed since the story broke that the person who leaked the transcripts was an Assistant coach in college basketball. My source would not tell me the name of the Assistant Coach and was also not certain that the coach was the same individual who leaked to Pete Thamel and the New York Times, but he confirmed that a College Assistant is the source of Bledsoe’s leaked transcripts to other media outlets.

After doing my own research and talking to a number of people on the issue, I believe I know who the Assistant Coach is who leaked the transcripts. However I dont believe I have enough solid information to put the name out there. Suffice to say that the number of suspects of who it could be is quite small. Eric Bledsoe’s Junior year transcripts were given to only three schools, Florida, Kentucky and Memphis. His Senior year transcripts were given to only two schools, Kentucky and Memphis. However that does not mean that it is certain an individual from one of these schools leaked the transcripts to the media, as the leaker may have been gotten the transcripts from an individual at one of these schools, or even originally from Bledsoe’s high school. However my source tells me that the leak to the media comes from a college Assistant coach, and one with a connection to either Bledsoe or with animosity to Calipari.
