there’s no question that three-star cornerback brandon davis of john curtis christian school in river ridge, la., now is leaning heavily toward tennessee coming off his weekend visit with the vols, who gave him his first power five offer on thursday. Davis said he’s likely to announce his decision sometime this week, and if he follows through on that plan, tennessee is expected to be the choice. But if the vols land him, don’t take that as any sort of sign regarding the vols’ chances of landing any of their top cornerback targets, including five-stars olaijah griffin and campbell and four-stars eddie smith, isaac taylor-stuart and palmer. Tennessee still is pursuing all of them and appears to have a legitimate shot at landing more than one of them.

Simonton said it’s possible but that this staff doesn’t plan to go the blue shirt route. They want to maximize their 25 each class.

I'm very relieved to hear this. I think 2019 will be our foundation class. After what this staff has accomplished in two months after a dumpster fire season, I want to see what they can do after a whole year.

2019 recruiting class is going to be fun.

Re: Davis.... curious situation here. Why accept his commitment when we're still in it with ES, ITS, TP, and OG? In this numbers game, we really going to take 3+ corners?

That’s fair, however, after watching how butch hired a staff and comparing that to how Pruitt went about it I’m feeling pretty confident. Pruitt hired coaches that other canvases actually know about and respect (for the most part).

I’m also confident because Pruitt came in and got rid of butch’s Terrible recruits. He knows the caliber player that it takes to win big boy football. You’re right that he’s got to prove it on the field but I have full confidence in him and this staff on the recruiting trail
He signed a lot of Butch's recruits.

Don't know about his speed or hips, but Davis is a fine athlete who balls out on the field. Isn't it possible that the staff really likes him and wants him on the team?

Understand that but going for his first as a HC. Totally glad we got him and increased my donation before they did and will not change it. However, will not blindly trust anyone until they earn it. Ask me Feb 7 if I am feeling good. So far so good with everything including this because one player will not determine results. It does not matter if his last name is Davis or Peterson.

GBO

Congrats Mr. Davis. Hope you ball out at UT.

Plays with good discipline. Speed is what I worry about with this kid.

“I spoke to Davis earlier today following his unofficial visit to Tennessee over the weekend. The situation is still fluid, but as I said last night, Davis is an intriguing prospect but nothing more right now. He has no bearing on Tennessee's cornerback board, as Griffin, Smith, Palmer and ITS are all still top targets.

Davis is a two-sport star (shortstop and corner) and spent the weekend meeting with baseball coach Tony Vitello, as well as Jeremy Pruitt, Terry Fair and David Johnson.”
