'24 LA DL Dominick McKinley (LSU commit)

Kid has said it is about relationships. He says about 3 words. Doesnt seem like type to care as much about NIL. I would wager he wants to be closer to home. Time will tell, hope its us.

Lafayette is 4:30 from CS. 10 hrs from Knox.

:54 from Baton Rouge.
Yep. If LSU has or is pushing, it doesn't bode well for us. Another burner WR is a want, but this one is a real need. Not getting my hopes up here.

Dont think you can ever count out RG, and what this campus is. Again, just fighting an uphill battle here with homestate school. Still unsure how or why we whiffed so much in this cycle, but am looking forward to a better crop & results in '25.

Still yet landing this guy would go a long way.

Young Rodney was an assassin on the recruiting trail. Old Rodney seems to have lost some of his stinger. Granted, he's still a master developer, but I'm not sure he's still killing it in recruiting. Frankly, I don't see a lot of stud recruiters on this staff. Very good but not the kind of guys who will come anywhere close to closing the talent gap with uga and bama. Don't get me wrong, I've got no dreams of us catching those two teams anytime soon. At my point in life and well over half a century of watching UT sports, I'm very content with us being an 8-10 win program....especially with the portal and OU/TX joining an already wickedly tough SEC.

I think he's still a good recruiter. Times have changed, and as i dont think he wants to live on the trail still. with free agency he may just be content to recruit players with experience, which is fine. but you gotta land some. I think mckinney is important v enough to camp in front of his house

Why? Just because he is a Louisiana kid? What if he doesn’t like LSU like you think?

If he doesn't like LSU, then why is he wasting their time by hosting in homes, keeping in touch, and taking a :54 minute drive for an OV?
I think “usually” a Louisiana kid is going to go to lsu by default. The fact that this kid chose A&M and chose to go out of state gives you hope that there is no instate loyalty there. There’s something to be said for having a college experience that isn’t an hour from home as well.

Flipside to that, if he likes them as much as some seem to think, why didn't he show them any interest, at all, before about a month ago...maybe even commit to them instead of A&M? A&M doesnt have a coaching change, LSU is in the same boat as us...not involved, at all.

LSU offered him 2 years ago (almost a full year before either us or A&M); and, I'd bet the farm they've been "pushing" full force since then. Yet, here we are...holding his last visit.

Yes, it's a massive challenge to pull em away from down there, and I'll be very much pleasantly surprised if we do; however, if it's LSU, just for the sake of him being a Louisiana boy, there were 2 years for that to already happen, but it didn't.

Tread lightly… I make a lot of these same points and the cheerleaders break out the pitch forks. 😂

RG has landed four 5* DL recruits ever. And one of those is Jordan Ross.

*IF* we get McKinley then 40% of 5* recruits he’s gotten all time will be Old Rodney at UT.

He had some very good players at Auburn. And Georgia. He's relied on those relationships for a lot of years. Jamal Lewis comes to mind.

LSU Jan 12
UT Jan 19
As others have said, IF we can just get him on our campus weekend of 19th/20th, we should still be in it.

I don't like that he sees LSU the week before, and they will be putting on full-court pressure.
However ...

... is it true that he will be in Orlando for his all- star game, the same time we are there for our bowl? Hmm.

The ATM coaching change could have affected this recruitment in more ways than one. NIL resources may have gotten reallocated to buying out Fisher. Would explain why they’ve had so many defections if they can’t meet the promised payroll.
