Lady Vol Softball.

The SEC sent 5 teams to the WCWS last season - Florida, LSU, Auburn, Alabama, and Tennessee - and the conference is expected to be stronger this season.

I doubt we will see a repeat next year. Not due to merit, but I have a sneaking suspicion NCAA selection committee will set super regional match ups to have sec teams take out fellow sec teams so big 12, big 10, acc and pac 12 have better odds. I was pretty shocked last year when seeds came out and sec could have had 6 teams in okc.

SEC softball being loaded is an understatement

Yeah, it's going to be a war this year. Should be fun to watch. I hope everyone has patience with this team. We could end up with a losing SEC record and still make it to the WCWS.

From that presser we can start taking molding who the starting lineup will be. From what I got at the presser the field lineup will be:
P-Erin Gabriel/Rainey Gaffin/Gretchen Aucoin/Bria Bush/Matty Moss
C- Lexi Overstreet
1B-Rainey Gaffin/Logyn Lilley/Abby Lockman
2B-Aubrey Leach
3B-Scarlet McSwain
SS-Meghan Gregg
LF-Brooke Vines
CF-Megan Geer
RF-Shaliyah Geathers/CJ McClain
DP-Shaliyah Geathers/Gretchen Aucoin

Batting Lineup:
1.) Brooke Vines
2.) Aubrey Leach
3.) Meghan Gregg
4.) Megan Geer
5.) Scarlet McSwain
6.) Lexi Overstreet
7.) Gretchen Aucoin
8.) Shaliyah Geathers
9.) Rainey Gaffin

Couple of notes/comments:
- I am so excited to hear that Erin Gabriel is healthy!! From all the stuff she has gone through and been able to pitch with problems in both her shoulder and her hip is amazing! She deserves to have a stellar senior season!

- This freshman class is very, very talented. Brooke Vines I believe is a Raven Chavanne type of talent and could really leave her mark by the time she is done at Tennessee. Aubrey Leach is also a fantastic player to watch out for in her time at Tennessee.

- Don't be shocked if Tennessee takes some losses in the non conference part of the schedule, this is probably the toughest one they've ever had!

Great press conference! Thanks for posting.

I am mildly surprised Gaffin is still going to be a major part of the rotation. I wonder if this is because Karen is hedging her bets re Gabriel's health and the fact that the freshman haven't yet pitched in a real game. I sort of hope that as the season progresses they don't have to lean on Gaffin as much as last season. I thought she was exhausted by the end of last season.

Re Gabriel - Karen said she is as healthy as she has been since she's been there. Great news of course but that's not the same as saying she's 100%. If she hits her stride and Bush and Moss pitch as good as advertised and then bring Gaffin in as closer - whoa.

Karen said Aucoin was still part of the "pitching by committee" but I just don't see it. She had too much trouble finding the strike zone last season. Ralph says you can teach location but you can't teach velocity. Maybe Aucoin has improved in that regard.

I'll be in Tempe for the Kajikawa classic and will be sure to post game reports.

Here's hoping for a GREAT season!

No problem!! I'll say that Lexi will surprise a lot of people this year she is a great hitter and catcher....Brooke Vines will be a stud!!...Geer is in her more natural spot of CF....man I cannot wait to watch this team I may head over to TTown to watch them play in a few weeks

I'm envious probably won't be televised either.

Gaffin on the pre-season list of 50 players to watch.

Gaffin Named to USA Softball POY - University of Tennessee Official Athletic Site

I clicked on the link to the list (embedded in the UT story) and the first person I see is Annie Aldrete wearing a California uniform. Bummer.

I did a quick count and the list shows:
SEC - 15 players
Pac 12 - 9 players
Big 10 - 5 players
Big 12 - 4 players

Several teams have three players on the list including Georgia (which is projected to finish 6th in the SEC!) LSU, and Michigan. Florida and Alabama have two on the list.

Why does Georgia State have two players on the list? Were they the team that almost beat Auburn in the tournament last season and lost because they gave up something like 9 runs in the 8th inning? Or was that somebody else?
