Lady Vols Recruiting Info

If they want to cut out some of the transferring that is going on with a few schools over signing NCAA needs to cut the scholarships to 13 like the men. A few schools load up see which ones fits their program best and then lets a few transfer out. Then they make room by pulling scholarships from certain players that aren't what they expected.
I will name them SC, Louisville, Ohio State, Baylor, and starting to look like Texas has decided to get in this game.

Yup and many know a person doesn’t fit their system and they take them to keep them away from another team and that person normally leaves and most likely go to another school on their original list

As a team with a tradition we need to continue to doing things the Tennessee way, you think Geno is words about possibly striking out on one class? No because he is confident that he will pull in a couple of top classes the years following that

You sound bitter.

Part of the reason why women's hoops has 15 scholarships compared to the men's 13 scholarships is Title IX, and the fact that football scholarship numbers are at 85; so, gotta close the gap between genders somehow.

Not bitter just realistic as to what is going on and the way transfers especially at four of the schools I mentioned have hit all time highs. You should have players best interest at heart not try to create a tryout camp where you know there will be losers and winners.

Well, I'm not sure the schools you singled out support your complaint.

- Baylor only has 10 scholarship players this season; chance are they won't even be at 13 next season

- Texas is at 14 scholarship players this season; will be at 15 next season for the first time in a long time

- Ohio State hasn't even been signing many players (if any) the last season or two

- I don't follow Louisville too closely; yes, they have transfers. Every school does.

women's basketball. The NCAA needs to raise the scholarship limit for soccer and softball--way too low.

Caitlyn Bickle is also committed to Baylor, and she and Smith both play the same position as DeCosta.

The 3-0 could be Bickle, Smith, and HSG.

I will say this, the only place I have heard about DeCosta committing to Baylor is on their own board. Recruiters haven't heard this. Her own club team hasn't heard this.

I have heard Tennessee and Louisville for months. I find it hard to believe that she would flip on both schools based on one weekend.

Could she have? Sure.

Exactly that's why I am telling people to calm down, if she chooses Baylor fine wish her the best but it says something about them if she wanted it to remain silent and folks on the board is dishonoring her wishes (players and staff)

Taking a wait and see because folk have been wrong before!

You haven't been paying attention if you haven't seen all the transfers Ohio State, Louisville, and SC in the last two or three seasons. Baylor and Texas just now getting into the game.

Things will be fine either way we are covered at every position two seasons from now. I'd rather play with a roster of 12 but we have played with 9 and 10 before and can do it again.

Well, I am a Texas fan. So if you want to provide examples of signed players who have transferred out of the program recently due to the TX coaches over-signing players, feel free. If you are speculating that's what's about to happen, then at least wait until the class of 2018 signatures have dried before claiming Texas is running off players to make room for new signees.

But, this thread is really supposed to be about Lady Vols' recruiting, so maybe going on this tangent isn't what other posters reading this thread want to discuss.

Texas is a work in progress we'll see what happens with a 14 to 15 player roster especially when they see a highly ranked player they want and don't have any space. My main point is that a reduction in scholarships should come into play in WBBC basketball and coaches should agree to this . Fifteen scholarships is to many you'll have at least five players that will never get to play except very rare occasions.
Softball needs more scholarships and basketball needs less.

The thing about women's hoops is that there are a lot of injuries. Very rarely does a team have every player healthy enough to even practice or play in each game. I know Texas has had its fair share of injuries recently.

I'll leave it up to each coaching staff to decide how many of the 15 allotted scholarships they wish to award.

Yep...folks on RebKell saying to be patient and wait this one out.

I have never understood the 15 argument. Especially when it comes to competition. The teams that have been the best in WCBB for the longest periods of times have very rarely ever had 15 on scholarship. So if the point is to even the playing field the logic doesn't pan out. For example, for those who believe that reducing the number of scholarships to 13 will make the game more competitive I challenge you to build a spreadsheet with the 10 best teams in WCBB over the past 15 years and determine how often those teams had 15 on the roster or even 14 on the roster. I guarantee it wouldn't be very often. Like I said, the logic there makes no sense. The best coaches and teams in WCBB historically haven't needed 15 to beat anyone.

If the point is to make playing time more appreciable then you may have an argument there. Unfortunately, just because you signed to play at Tennessee or wherever doesn't mean you will see the floor. For most schools that is dependent upon your work ethic, skill set, & the game/situation. The problem is these kids play @ their HS and their the star, they play in AAU, and their the star. When they get to college everyone is a star(to some degree, I mean they did get a scholly).

So their mindset has to change. If you recruit a kid from a good AAU coach (not the kind who are trying to pump themselves up but really do want their kids to get better) and out of a HS with good coaching I think you can avoid some of the transfers but at the end of the day what you sold that kid on the recruiting trail you gotta deliver because expectations are everything. I think the more direct you can be the better.

Tennessee will likely have 3 good recruiting classes in a row because of the make up of their team. Every college has the same 200 minutes to offer their team each game. You never know who will get injured or not show up in practice. If you are a top recruit you better look at that as an opportunity to prove your worth. If you expect to be given anything at the collegiate level you will be sorely disappointed.

I'm good with 3 (if we strike out and just add Burrell to Massengil and MiMi Collins)

It would put us at 10 again next season and there will be someone from the 2017 class who realize they made the wrong decision or someone who graduates early and could possibly look to transfer to UT!

There is also the likelihood of someone developing over the summer and during this upcoming school year that impresses and could provide us what we need therefore I am not giving down.

I just wish we also looked more at having open tryouts and possibly adding a walk on or two. You never know who out there might be talented enough but for whatever reason couldn't play but improved enough to play/be a warm body just in case.

If we end up with Burrell, Mimi & Jaz, this would still be a VERY GOOD class of excellent position players...I'll take it "ALL DAY" long...GO LVFL:clapping:

I will take it also. I would think that if they cannot land a quality JC post, then Tennessee may be in the running for a good one from the 2019 class. I have not looked to see how many there are or the projected quality of posts in the 2019 class.
