Lady Vols Recruiting Info

To my knowledge, Boston is no longer considering Tennessee. They are going after Kennedy Brown very hard. I would say classes of 4-5 per year is ideal.

I know Boston’s hometown is like 45 min from UCONN so that may be to good to pass up. So with that being said is Kennedy Brown someone to get excited over? Is Key an exciting player? I know Boston is super athletic and a difference maker. I could see her taking some of ONO minutes upon her arrival.

I disagree about Russell. Green has been getting very little playing time this year and will be a Senior next year. KK gets practically no playing time this year. So our inside leader will be a Senior with pretty limited minutes. Our leader the year after will likely be someone who has played virtually none this year.

Fair, but I don't think we necessarily need great inside play to be successful. We will have dynamic guard play (hopefully) next year with Hayes, Davis, Westbrook, and Jackson to anchor us. Often times I think Mercedes slows down our offense and makes us cumbersome. Maybe having a more spaced floor with fewer traditional front court players will be an asset for us.

If UCONN gets Boston and Brunelle, I’m going to quit watching women’s college basketball!

Whoever is in charge of recruiting at Tennessee has seemed to do a fantastic job. On paper, SO FAR, we seem to have good classes year end and year out. We just need a coaching staff that can develop them and get the most out of them. You must have BOTH. You can't have what we have - recruiting great talent that doesn't develop. You also can't have the opposite like programs like Louisville, NC State, Green Bay, and TAM - gets the most from their players, but doesn't attract enough talented players to win the championship. To compete for a championship, you have to get great talent and develop them to perform the best they can.
Louisville gets tons of talent, Texas AM isn't hurting for talent either. Do you really follow WCBB? I ask because this post seems to be written with little knowledge of recruiting, example- we had no recruits coming last season, so to say we get a good class, year end and year out, just is ignorant of WCBB, and to say Louisville doesn't get much is nuts! Furthermore, you seem clueless that we don't develop talent. Nared and Russell have improved greatly since arriving. As for talent, we have 6 McDonald's AA. Only 2 are not freshman...meaning we have not been successful year end and year out, as you have been lead to believe ( we lost 3 last year)

I agree about Louisville. They recruit early and hard and are even in good position for some of the state’s (Tennessee) top talent, specifically the 2021 class.

You have to admit that our latest recruiting coordinator has done a dang good job for the past 2 years. :D

I thought Gordon didn't join the staff until July of 2017? She likely had little to no contact with many of the recruits until extremely late in their decision making. Some of which I believe had already decided before she was even brought in. The next few years are probably more indicative of her skills than anything that has happened in the last 8 months. 2018 looks promising. She should get some credit but most should go to whoever had kept them in the funnel for so long before she got there. Did someone came in who wasn't already on the radar before she got there?

Jolette Law was the person in charge of this groups recruiting but it has been stated that Sharonna Reeves came in and picked right up when she left a ... she ( Reeves) also found Rae Burrell and got Green to come here to visit once she decommitted from KU. Holly has a good relationship with Massengill’s coach and Jaz wanted to be a Lady Vol (like CP3) and was just waiting on the offer so Holly pulled the trigger and I think got a good one.

So yes I would say Sharrona Reaves has done a pretty good job as recruiting coordinator and we are in on some really good players in the 19’ class too.

But to answer your question Rae Burrell (who could be a steal) is the player who seemingly came in late.

Oh ok. So Gordon coaches the guards?

Wasn’t your question which signee wasn’t on the radar or came in late? Or did I misread it?

Lol yeah you cleared that up. Now I'm confused at who was hired for what. I went and checked the site but that made me more confused because it says Heather Irvin for recruiting, but I did a bit more digging and reading through the profiles. So I was trying to make sense of it. So Reaves was to replace Law who coached the guards and did recruiting, right? Gordon was hired to just coach the guards right? Thinking about it and the timing that seems like it makes the most sense just wanted to make sure. I was all mixed up on that.

Yes! Lol, heather Irvin is in charge of keeping tabs on recruits and who TN wants, who has mutual interest and setting up recruiting trips as well. She maintains TN recruiting data base as she did with the football team for TN. Reaves is in charge of overall recruiting so Irving works under/along her.

Reaves was hired after Kyra Elzy left and took over Kyra’s role as recruiting coordinator. Gordon was hired to take Law’s place.

Thank you my point was Reaves is the recruiting coordinator...I was really paying attention to the hiring portion or who coaches who because the question was about signees coming on who may have not been associated with law because of them not being on the radar.

Naw... now if they get Boston, Brunelle AND AZZI FUDD (then quit) LOL

I had a chance to see this young lady she lives in the same home town as my mom ad dad Cary, NC and her name is Tamari Key 6-4 6-5 she is gonna be a good one class of 2019 Holly and crew need to check this young lady out.

Her and sister have already visited and she has an offer! 😁

6-5 Kennedy Brown another LV target... This young lady seems like she would be a good catch too and seems sure of herself and wanting to be a good ball player. She has visited unofficially I think and holds an unconditional offer from UT. Insightful clip and enjoy!

I'm Gonna Win Cause I Wanna Win: Kennedy Brown - YouTube

I like the video she will be a good one to. It`s clear Brown is better on the offensive end and want to be a stretch 4 because she can hit the 3. Now if you want someone who can help you extended the defense it`s Tamari Key she can also score on the low block to.

I think we need the highest rated center we can get maybe two. Collins is really a four type player. KK will be our only true center after next season. We need to look at point guard and a combo guard. I think we need to sign four two will be graduating and one other may never play so that leaves us with 8 and I think you need at least 12. I think team may have experienced some fatigue later in the season because of extended minutes. This may have been a problem on almost every Holly team since she's been here. She keeps the roster to low.
