Lady Vols Recruiting Info

Tamara Key: Schools of interest ....

2019 verbals:

Florida State: verbal from #5 River Baldwin P6’5” Al.

Louisville: verbal from #28 Ramani Parker F6’4” Cal.

VT : verbal from Elizabeth Kitley #63 P 6’4” NC

Duke: 2019 ____

Tennessee verbal from Emily Saunders 6’5” #89

What is our chances of getting Key from North Carolina? All ranks are from Prospect Nation! Key is ranked #50..... Parker going to Louisville is listed as a Forward but can she play post for them? Every team needs more than one post.... since Fl. St. and Louisville verbals are ranked higher and our verbal is ranked lower.... would she feel better about playing time coming to UT???? Does she have the grades to get into Duke ? Opinions? 🤔

Do we wait on Davenport or Brown ?

I really think she is ours to lose to be honest.

My reason for saying that is Florida State added a Post in the 2018 Class (Myers) and has a Post in 2019 (Baldwin) they also had a 4/5 player transfer from Maryland who sat out this year and will have 3 years of eligibility left.

Louisville adds Parker in the 2019 Class to go with KaKala who they added in the 2018 Class to go with Shook who they added in 2017 not to mention that they are also still in the running for a few post ranked higher than her.

VT has lost a lot of players recently due to transfer and a lot of buzz is going around as to whether the coach will even finish the season.

With Us she would have a couple of years behind KK and MiMi but she would see a lot more time than at the other places as it would be her, Saunders, KK, and MiMi Collins as the post options. MiMi is more 4 than 5 and Saunders can play the 4/5 and so can Key.

McCallie rarely uses a back to the basket Post player and I don't see that changing. If it is about academics then I can see her going to Duke but if it is about basketball and academics Duke would not be the place to go. Not to mention Duke has added 2 Post in 2017 (Treece and Jade Williams) and 2 in 2018 (Akinbode-James and Nwoke)

I do believe though that whichever Post decides to verbal first (Key, Brown, or Davenport) will be the one we continue to pursue until signing day. Once one of the players verbal elsewhere Holly and company will no longer contact them concerning playing at UT (as I feel is the right decision)

This was where I was going... As I started to see the verbals to the schools that she had listed as her schools of interest. Just looked like we would be her best option! Thanks for the details of the last few years of the schools she was looking at.... I hope you are right but wondered if we would wait on Davenport or Brown ? Mainly because of the scholarships available, we are limited because of the last two years of four recruits. Who wouldn’t want to play with these top players at UT ?

The only problem that I see with our bigs....

Harris,,,, kK ,,,,, Collins,,,,, Saunders,,,, With two top recruiting classes over the past two years.....We do not have a top (50) FIFTY big to go along with our top ten or twenty ranked guards and wings ! Just saying 🤔

The only problem I see with your statement is that it is too limited in its analysis. First, I'm not sure what rankings you're looking at, but both Kasi and Mimi were ranked in the top 15 overall in their respective class by ProspectsNation. Kasi at 11 and Mimi at 9. While ESPN Hoopgurlz had them listed lower (57 and 49 respectively), HG had them ranked at number 6 and 9 respectively in their position rank. It is also important to note, in my opinion, that the overall ranking of players tends to be weighted generally toward guards and wings, thus making the position ranking even more important when it comes to an evaluation of forwards and post players. Looking at it from this perspective, two of the four bigs you mentioned are pretty clearly in that elite field that you desire.

Additionally, although she will only be with us for two more years, you forgot Cheridene Green, who, if memory serves me correctly, was the number 1 post player coming out of juco two years ago. At the very least she was a Two-time National Junior College Athletic Association All-American at ASA College and ranked first in the NJCAA in rebounds, third in blocks and eighth in scoring.

Personally, I'd say we have the posts to hang with our highly ranked guards and wings! Just saying!

Thanks Jim

I usually use HG mainly because of their computer program that lets you link from the recruit to the team and sometimes the teams prospects being considered. Plus you can go back and forth to different years of recruitment. Sometime one source HG will rate a player and another PN not even list that recruit?

I only listed the ones that will be with these last two years to go along with our #1 and top #5 classes. You are correct about Green but she already played last year and this year will be the last. So looking at years 19 ,20 ,21..... We have kK and Saunders so far... you can count Collins if you like but she seems to be a 3 or 4 ? JMO
Will we sign a top ten big or even a top 20? I hope so???

PS: prospect nation had KK team mate M. Dodson rated lower and the three games I watched Dodson was the best athlete and KK could get rebounds and put backs but not much else? JMO

question on the rules . what is considered an evaluation? versus a visit or a contact or an appearance at a player's game. Is it possible for four coaches to each count separate or does Coach = the coaching staff. Are the player's who completed their junior year immediately considered seniors beginning in June?

• During your senior year a college coach cannot evaluate and/or contact you more than 7 times. Only three of those seven can be a contact.
• During a contact period college coaches can make only one visit per week to your high school.
• Evaluations at nonscholastic events and noninstitutional camps or clinics that occur on a Division 1 campus are prohibited.

I agree with you Key is ours to lose. If Holly and the staff can get her to commit this would be huge.

A lot of us thought DeCosta was ours to lose as well. I think we’re high on Key’s list but I definitely don’t think she’s ours to lose.

I am really hoping to hear we something from Rickea Jackson! She is at the top of my wish list!!! She is a baller and a game changer. To me she is Joyner Holmes 2.0.

She’s better then Joyner Holmes, and can play way more positions. 2-4 offensively and 1-5 defensively. Jackson, Horston, Beal, Davenport, Cooke, Bell, and Jones are the jewels of the class IMO.

That’s why I want her! LOL... I heard she was straight unstoppable at the USA try-outs and lots of people said she was clearly the best player there on the defensive and offensive end! But she plays the same position as Brunelle who looks to be USAs up and coming darling.

I hope we get at least two of the above players you mentioned... a post and a wing to add to this class I’ll be happy. Cooke I would be happy with becuz she can score the ball!

I know Beal, Bell, and Horston are some you guys are in on. But you guys are sorta like us and guard/wing heavy at this point.

If you are talking about Taylor Jones ? Already verbaled to Oregon State!

I try to keep up with the players we are interested in ! I have never heard anyone mention her as a player of interest ? Just saying...

She is the #1 player in some rankings... I am sure TN is interested but the feeling may not be mutual...

You should watch her play and do some reading about her!!! VERY GOOD PLAYER!!
Just saying...

Look out for Maori Davenport as well. A lot of people think she’s the best post in the class. Made the u18 squad as well. A couple of sources are saying that Jackson, Horston, and Cooke might be a package deal and the only schools that’s recruiting all three are Louisville, Tennessee, South Carolina, and Ohio State. I believe that’s who it will come down to for these ladies. Although Horston is being recruited by UCONN, and both Jackson and Cooke are targets for Texas. It’s going to be an interesting fall.

These three players are all listed as guards. Point guard,,, shooter,,, wing...small forward???? And no big listed with the bunch ! I don’t see it ! Just my opinion.... Two are from Ohio and one from Michigan. I could see the two from Ohio! But .... stranger things have happened. What is your source? Neighbors in the back yard? Or gossiping at Church? Time will tell 🤔

Not sure how it would work for Tennessee but It could very well work for SC, Louisville, and Ohio State. All three play different positions. Louisville loses Durr, Carter, and Fuerhing, SC will lose Cuevas-Moore, Cliney, Jennings, Perry and possibly Cooper. Ohio St certainly has the space with the amount of walk ons they have.

Only Cooke and Horston are listed as guards, while Jackson is listed as a wing and of course Jackson is also looking at Michigan and Michigan St.

Still a lot to be decided and who knows with 17 year olds.

If your (SOURCE) is accurate? And these three ladies are a package deal ! They would be foolish to consider Tennessee. With the last two years of top rated guards playing for UT..... They would not be enough playing time for them !!! Just saying 🤔

If their daddy’s want to coach ? The Mitchell family has moved on and Ohio is looking for an assistant coach and another all American daughters! 😈

Mulkey offered what Holly was unwilling to offer, which is normally the case with a lot of these teams when it comes down to it. We will see if she stays should Mulkey lands a taller piece at her respective position in the 2019 class.

2 (Hortson and Cooke) are definitely trying to be a packaged deal, haven't heard about Jackson being included in that deal though.

U mean Mulkey in reference to DeCosta? We know she is a good recruiter but I think out of her whole recruiting class DeCosta or the AZ girl are the most likely to transfer.

Sidenote: When I watch the most recent post about LV wishing their dads a HAPPY FATHERS DAY you can really see how close Westbrook is with her family :) Reminds me of Massengale and her being so home sick and then finally embracing the LV life. I hope this young lady sticks with it.

I know the term bestie is thrown around a lot however Jackson has repeatedly said she is bestfriends with Cooke. Jackson and Horston seem to be good friends as well. I don’t think that means they all end up at the same school but I like you could Horston and Cooke ending up at the same school (Ohio state) and staying home. Also there will be playing time and we know like some other coaches Ohio State has recruited over players and promised playig time and deals (ie Mitchell sisters/dad is a coach).
