Lady Vols Softball

I complaint as much as anyone but that was a great run and we are not done yet.

This tournament should be a good confidence builder for the team. Ashley can rest up and be ready to go for Regionals. Hopefully, Bender gained some confidence, too. She stepped into a tough spot and showed poise, when she probably wasn't expecting to play much.

I think Rogers wanted to come in the game but Karen said no. Watching Rogers warm up it looked like she was real tight. I think Karen was worried about injury and shut her down. When she walked out to the pen she was shaking her head no before Rogers could say anything.

I also doubt Karen wanted to pitch to Hemphill. But she didn't want to put the tying run on second either. So I'm guessing she wanted to see if Hemphill would get herself out swinging at nibble pitches. Risky strategy, the ultimate in risk/reward. I think our pitcher just simply threw a poor pitch closer to the plate than she wanted. It happens.

I admire your optimism but regarding the offense ... it was one game. We had two games with horrible offense and one game with good offense. Odds are every game in the NCAAT will be a grind because that's just how this team is. This team is very box of chocolates-ish, lol.

All it takes is one game to get it going man

We at least may have killed BAMA"s chances at beating Florida by them having to use Fouts so much, but Florida winning is no less distasteful. No win situation.

Finally seeing the replay of the pitch Hemphill hit out it was a ball out side of the plate that she got enough of the bat on and hit it out.....some of yall need to chill hahaha

Yeah idk where people are getting that it was over the middle of the plate. It being belt-high made it easier to get extended on, though. Ivy Renfroe used to give up homers on that exact pitch.

Honestly I'm shocked because Turner was one of the top pitchers in her class and she's nothing more than a junk pitcher in college. Don't get me wrong, that can be very effective when you have control. But she doesn't have control and has almost as many walks as she has strikeouts.

Didn't come back after the pandemic time at home the same player she left here in March 2020. In the fall, I was told she was down 8 mph in velocity from last spring. I don't necessarily trust the speed gun ESPN had on her tonight, but it consistently showed her 6-8 mph lower than what I know she was hitting last spring. She doesn't have good enough movement or control to throw that slow. If she's serious about playing at this level, she needs to get in the weight room and build some power back up. I'm not sure she'll have the opportunity here. If there's a pitcher in the portal that they can pull in, she won't have a spot anymore.

I went back and watched the replay of the 1st inning. The gun showed her average speed on non change ups was 66 mph. She hit 68 (3) times and 67 (4) times. So you're saying that's 6-8 mph less than she was hitting last year? That would mean she was hitting 72-74 last year. I don't remember her throwing that hard.

Power hitter like her, anything river in you live with the results, result was losing the lead/game. Off speed away, jam high on the hands, away, away or down.

Not sure those numbers are correct on last year. If she lost that type of VELO (which I doubt) then that’s on the staff/trainer for not getting her back up this season.

Winning against TA&M was a clutch victory, winning against Arkansas was totally unexpected by just about everyone, but almost winning against Alabama at their home, without our star pitcher throwing a single pitch is eye opening and tremendously impressive.

What a joy it has been to watch our Tennessee team keep fighting against other top teams, against all odds, and shocking everyone’s expectations.

Fight and confidence are so much a determination of winning and our Tennessee team has shown both. One big tournament to go, and our team can shock anyone, till it’s no longer a shock, but expected. GO LADY VOLS!!!

What type of pitcher in the portal do we take? Rogers is back and possibly back for two years. Types of pitchers in the portal, are Turner type kids.

Not blaming Bender but at worst the pitch should have been down and farther out. The one to the hitter that had not hit a homerun was just dead middle with not enough speed. Rogers or Fouts might get away with that pitch not Bender. Bender gave a great effort but she can’t throw what she doesn’t have. (My first choice would have been to give her nothing to hit)

My only hope is Megan might know some pitchers out there. It is not optional but we don’t have much choice. Hopefully the pitcher from Washington can pitch, but we need more.

We have a lot coming back as far as hitters. I believe were about two pitchers, a second baseman and a power hitting consistent outfielder from being a top ten team.

I don’t trust that BAMA radar at all I think they use to intimidate with Fouts IMHO. I know nothing but it has been hinted at that Turner has not fully applied the staff/trainer advice which has led to some frustration with her. But we sure have some anemic though pretty looking players.

It was a great run. Our hitting was not great at times but you are facing some of the best in the ncaa. We could have had some better approaches but it wasn’t lack of effort. Ally was giving everything she had to try to tie the game at the end. Loved the effort overall for it can’t do anything but help going forward.

I must not have been watching it as closely as I thought, because I had made a mental note of it registering 61-62. She was 68 last year, so if it was showing that, then she’s finally back close to where she was.

Too late to help us get into the top 8, but I saw that Stanford swept Washington yesterday 4-1 and 8-0. Compared to that, we had a great weekend.
