LaMarcus Coker suspension

SO wait!! how long do u guys think Coker will be suspended.. maybe a game.. or will he be able to come back before Cal?

In 1990, Carl Pickens was a promising sophmore and Dale Carter was a JUCO transfer.
Anyone who didn't know Carl Pickens was going to be a star after the 1989 season needs to take up watching soap operas and cooking shows instead of football. It took all of one game to see how good Carter was.

so seriously.. do u guys think he will be back before the Cal game?

I definitely don't see Coker playing in the Cal game. But then again, stranger things have happened. If his actions are associated with what's been hinted at though, he could be gone for not just the Cal game, but a good while after that.

Maybe . . . maybe not. In 1990, Carl Pickens was a promising sophmore and Dale Carter was a JUCO transfer. They were like a lot of guys on this year's team - full of potential and not much else.

Good point. We have yet to see O'Neal, Mckenzie, Berry, Vinson, and Martin take the field. It's possible that we could have about 4 or 5 immediate impact players on this year's roster.

Have heard the same thing man......

If it's true, Coker can join the "Mary Jane All-Stars" along with James Banks and Major Wingate, and just hitch a ride out of town as far as I'm concerned. It's not that I think the wacky weed is the worst thing in the world, but you have to be a real idiot to risk your education and potential livelihood because you need to constantly smoke it up.

I'd rather have lesser players on the field than guys without enough sense to steer clear of the ganja when they know they're going to get tested ...

Not a chance, unless, by some cosmic time warp, Urben Meyer becomes our head coach before the game. Reference his one game suspension of that pothead RB, that he supended for one game (some lowly no- name-school that couldn't beat Hoover High in this state)!:banghead2:

Hence, why I used the word "promising" for Pickens. After the 1990 Cotton Bowl, the word was pretty much out on Pickens.

All I'm saying is that it's easy to look back at the greatness of those guys and forget that there was a time when we either didn't know who they were or had no clue they would both be 1st round draft choices.

That's a fair point.

No, but we could still have a pretty good season regardless. The SEC East is up for grabs this year with so many question marks. At any rate, Coker probably would have end up being third on the depth chart come September 1st. Foster and Hardesty are more than capable to carry the load.
If our o-line doesn't run block any better than last yr it won't matter much who is back there.

I didn't realize being slow for a tailback, constantly fumbling, and being hurt all the time constituted "talent."

Either you think these guys are talented enough to carry the load or you don't. I think they do. I hope I'm proven correct.

True, but I've heard some promising reports on their progress. I expect guys like Young, McNeil, Scott, Foster, and McClendon to improve in that aspect.

If he's basing that off of Arian's freshman season, he has a point. If he got back to the way he ran in 2005 I would be more than satisifed. Hardesty, though, has been inconsistent if anything.

This may be the first season Hardesty will go in completely healthy (assuming his hamstring heals up as anticipated).

Coker's loss won't affect the season. He was speedy but not durable.....only a 10-15 carry a game back. I had hoped he would have become a Charlie Garner type back, but looks like he came up short from the mental and physical standpoint.

I project Creer will be another good UT tailback before the season is over.

Well, we would only need 10-15 carries a game from him, since he would be splitting carries with Foster, and maybe even Hardesty. His speed gave a nice change of style from Foster's power running. I thought Coker was going to be very valuable this season.

This reeks of James Banks all over again. Our one dynamic playmaker gone because of stupid bs.

Why does this stuff keep happening to us?

8-5 here we come.
:blink:cause we're the only ones that have ever had any players involved in off feild issues........jeez. relax.
I agree with that. However, I don't see Carl Pickens, Alvin Harper, Dale Carter, Peerless Price, Al Wilson, or Raynoch Thompson on this roster.
well, not yet anyway.........:pmaybe after this year or next, these guys coming in may fill those shoes quite nicely........everyone has to start somewhere, sometime.........

as for COker, it's really sad.......only thing you can do is hope that he works all this out and can at some point be a productive part of this program.

as to how this affects the team, or season......well, it's obviously a blow to the offense, but i do agree with CPF on one thing......one person, no matter how good he may be, is not bigger than the program.

all he can do at this point is enforce the policies in place. the policy itself doesn't prevent the individual from breaking it......the individual has responsibility here. who knows, suspending a guy like Coker may send the right message and become a rally cry for the team.....anyway, just trying to find some way to find a silver lining in this otherwise dark cloud......

Coker was pre-season All-SEC and none of the other UT backs were. This definitely hurts the team.

I hope so, but I would have thought kicking Schaeffer off the team would have sent a message.
