LaMarcus Coker suspension

There's a reason Coker was pre-season All-SEC and none of the other UT backs were. This definitely hurts the team.
It definitely hurts the team, but other than maybe Linebacker, Tailback is the position where we can absorb a hit like this better than any other position.

i don't think anyone can deny that......he was going to be a big part of the offense.......maybe he still will......can only hope now.

I hope so, but I would have thought kicking Schaeffer off the team would have sent a message.
speaking of him, did you see where he is not listed as the starting qb headed in to ole miss's fall camp? my how the mighty have fallen.......

From Fulmer:

"He's got to go through the process," Fulmer said. "I can't tell you whether it's going to be a week, two weeks or a month. I'm really not going to talk about it more until I know more about the whole scenario."

I find it interesting the timelines he used, even though he said he didn't know.

Also stings a bit more when you look at Foster and Hardesty's medical history. Not that Coker was always healthy, but that's one less (experienced) body back there now...

Yeah, I read that he was competing with a walk-on for the job. Partly because of his off-field inconsistency.

as in those are the three timeline choices CPF has to choose from for the suspension?

i can't say i'm surprised. from what i saw of ole miss last year, he reminded me of what james banks was to us in 2002.

I think that's code for stop smoking dope so you can play against Florida.

Even linking the GOD Tedford into the debate in any way shape or form is blasphemous!

If Tedford is a god, then I'm not sure what that makes Fulmer. Evidently he would be something so powerful that the human mind is incapable of creating a noun to describe him. Seriously, Fulmer made Tedford look like a fool in their only matchup.

I think he is back on the team by the Cal game. Just a feeling. I'm not saying he will play, but I have a feeling he will be back by the Cal game.

We could have easily put it in from the goal line instead of running a QB sneak with Crompton and could have kept our starters in the whole game. When you are getting beat by 35 midway through the 3rd quarter and the other team pulls its starters, you have no room whatsoever to talk about a lack of class or mercy.

And the moral of the story is...

A few weeks after UT dominated Cal but lost to UF, Cal jumped in front of UT in the polls because the score made the game look closer than it was. Meanwhile, USC ran the score up on Ark and it wasn't forgotten or forgiven the whole year long by the poll voters... Bottom line: If you have 'em down kick 'em til they stop moving.

I personally believe the score was more or less reflective of the difference in the two teams at that point last year. But UT should have never called off the dogs or at least kept them on the leash unless Tedford did the same.

Had UT hung 50 on them (which they could have), Cal wouldn't be ranked ahead of UT right now and no one would be favoring them. The impression sticks.

That's no worse than all the fugazi disciplinarians on here blathering about the poor conduct of athletes and how great Fulmer is for suspending guys.

Yes. Fulmer or any other coach is "great" for enforcing the rules and applying just discipline to the players. If I were king the policy wouldn't be anything like this lenient.

Off the field discipline problems that aren't dealt with promptly and forcefully will effect the team on the field... witness 2005.

I know it's my first post...

Anyone else think that maybe, just maybe, that the loss of Coker Will affect the team?

Just saying, as a worst case scenario, that he misses at least half the season. That's last year's leading rusher, as well as this year's starting kick returner, gone. That may be a little of a problem compacted onto the wideout situation.

Granted, my true opinions are that Trooper Taylor can get any group of recievers up to par, the running backs can't do any worse than last year, the O-Line looks better than most believe, and It's a good thing to force one of our young Gamebreakers into the KR role.

Just throwin' that out there.

P.S. Hello Volnation!:)

A couple of guys were talking about addiction earlier.

Pot isn't chemically addictive but it can be emotionally addictive.

Why on earth a kid with this much talent wouldn't stay away from that kind of stuff is beyond me. If he made it to the next level, he'd only have more problems.

welcome to the board. i think most would agree that losing coker is a big deal, but in the same breath, if there is a position we are deep at it's running back, so all in all, it may not affect us overall as much as it first feels like.

i do think that the KR factor could be where we miss his presence the most....

but the truth is, if the O line is much better than last year, then Foster and Hardesty will be better as well.....i still think the O line has something to prove, but i do expect it to be better.........it can't get worse right?

Hi, I'm Ricky Williams.....:whistling:

Losing a guy with Coker's speed hurts. But it will open up some opportunities. Creer is out there along with the kid from Charlotte that Butch Davis got real interested in toward signing day.

Who knows? Maybe this makes G Jones the next great UT tailback. Maybe the healthy Hardesty makes everyone forget Coker. Maybe the new 230 lb Foster behind a much more athletic OL won't need a home run hitter.

What we do know is that someone will get a better chance than we thought they'd get as of yesterday. That guy may surpass anything Coker could have ever done. Coker may turn out to be irreplaceable... Coker may come back finally understanding what's on the line and be a better player than he would have been otherwise.

It is sad... but not hopeless.
