LaMarcus Coker suspension

Intro:
I'm conservative on many issues, but there is no justifiable reason that alcohol (a drug) is legal and weed (a drug) is illegal. It's more of a historical accident than anything. People have been drinking beer for centuries so it just got embedded into our culture as being benign. Weed doesn't have the same lengthy history and so it never got a stare decisis pass from the public...that's why its illegal. Its not because its more harmful than alcohol.

It wasn't a historical accident by any means. The intent of the Marijuana Tax Act of 1937 was purposely proposed by the U.S. government to prevent the uses Hemp would provide - the potential is huge. That Act stemmed from the potential profit loss a major corporation would receive. There was also a clear move to bastardize the plant after a magazine article in the 1930's said Hemp was "the billion dollar crop." The major corporation/government/media's main intent was to spread degrading information about "marijuana" (Hemp/Marijuana were publicized as the same thing) to deceive the public into believing it was a horrid, demonic sort of thing in order to maintain the policy & their expanding profit. hence the movies "Reefer Madness", "Marijuana: The devil's weed with roots in hell", & "Marijuana Makes Fiends of Boys in 30 Days". Also, marijuana was legal for the first 162 years of America's existence and has been widely used in parts of the world for thousands of years.

Funny to me how a lot of people have prejudged him as to what he may have done wrong but yet no facts had been released.

I say he's back by second half of first game, provided he keeps his act together until then. It's really up to Coker if he wants to play ball or not.

I'd love to know why this is so funny? And I really hope your not taking shots at my religious belief.

Because it's not harmful to your body. I couldn't help myself by laughing at the body is a temple of God comment, either. That's not takin' shots at your religious belief, it's just me expressing what I felt while reading the comment. Laughter.

I respect your opinion. I'm Catholic and I have strong religious beliefs. But I don't want to go into a religious arguement.

VolQuest.com has released articles stating substance abuse. Unfortunatly I refuse to pay for their content, so I can't read the whole article.

here are my feelings:

#1) i can't believe the amount of, "oh, we don't need him" replies. he averaged 6.4 ypc last year, compared to foster/hardesty who both averaged about 3.5 -- that's a significant difference.

#2) i can't believe people saying, "well he was just a 2nd/3rd string back." no he wasn't, he was going to be UT's featured back.... people were banking on it.

#3) i predict that he will be back by the 3rd game of the season at the latest, and i think that he WILL dress out for the CAL game, as 182 said.

"Its his 3rd offense, and this time its for Marijuana." That right there makes me wonder if he doesn't have deeper issues than just pot. Also, Fulmer stated that this has been an issue since before he was at UT.

This sucks for Coker, and i hope he gets it under control, but this is giving a huge opportunity to Hardesty, Creer and Vereen to step it up and bury Coker on the depth chart. I hope 1 or 2 of those RBs step up and perform this fall.

I have not seen where someone said the kid was not talented. But we don't need him if he is not right. The team is more important than a player.

1. Those are facts but they were both injured so i guess we will see.

2. Thats BS. He was going to be the 2nd or 3rd string back. Foster passed him on the depth chart way back in early spring and its his job to lose. Fulmer sounds very encouraged now that hardesty is healthy. It still remained to be seen who would have been the second back.

After our game on October 20th, I must ask that all of your players stay away from our players as I think that they could be a bad influence on our fine upstanding, law abiding young men.

:lolabove::lolabove:. That's funny right there I don't care who you are.

From what I have read, they are going to make him do some outpatient program and then the suspension gets lifted. Seems like a reasonable approach. Basically a carrot and stick. If you want to play, you have to get through this drug program and then keep your nose clean.

Oh, let me rephrase...

LaMarcus Coker WAS NOT our feature back. The feature back will be Foster cause the coaches like his work ethic and he makes really good cuts and do not be surprised if Hardesty plays like a beast because he is healthy. LaMarcus Coker was a luxury, not a necessity and I think if he does not do anything else, he will back, but what are the chances of that? Why did Fulmer not give Ray Henderson 3 chances?

He had a medical prescription for it, test anxiety.

IMHO, this is a big hit to the running game. Foster and Hardesty are unreliable and inconsistent respectively. I hope that Creer, the Tatum Tazer, is the second coming of Herschel Walker and gives us some game breaking ability at RB.

In spite of Coker's talent, the guys that say we don't need him if he can't mend his ways are correct. He appears to be on the knife's edge with the University and will be gone with one more screw up. Even if he makes it back for the Cal game, I wonder how long he will last.

It's just too damn bad............................
