LaMarcus Coker suspension

Do we know the extent of the suspension as of yet...Will it only be 1 game???

Also, one other point...a lot of the people (not necessarily on VN) that are saying this is stupid and that maybe Coker shouldn't be suspended indefinitely are the SAME ones that were screaming about "discipline problems...it's all Fulmers fault" not very long ago...just an observation, but what do I know...I live in Indiana:question:

I'd rather someone other then Berry. He's too valuable at CB and might get injured. KR's take some big hits, especially now that they are kicking off from the 30.

It's hard to get hurt when they guys can't touch you!

Lamarcus have you ever met James Banks?

seriously somebody find his email address and send him the article about james working at tgi fridays. he also might want to consider the nfl's new player conduct policy. even if he gets back to playing football he has cost himself draft position and serious money.

It was a result of substance abuse policy, for sure. Marijuana, to be exact. If this had happened 2 months ago, he'd be off the team.

What a MORON!!!! He has the whole world in front of him and can't stop from smoking weed.

Personally...I just don't get it when I see athletes throw their career away over weed. Believe me...I am no stranger to mary jane...I knew her pretty well while I was in college. But how could these guys throw away the chance at millions..or, in the case of Ricky Wiliiams, actually having millions...to smoke weed.

1. It's not that addictive

AND

2. It's not that great of an experience

I see what you are saying but lots of cornerbacks are return men. They also get leveled on punt returns too so I don't think that's a big deal.

while i won't discount that possiblity, the way you hear about him, he's going to probably play all three squads.....off, def, and st......injuries can happen anywhere........and in this day and age, when half of the criticism of the coaching staff is being conservative and not developing players, how can you not want to get this kid as many touches as you can???

there will be 1/2 of the fan base complaining that this is bad because he COULD get injured, and then there'll be 1/2 of the fanbased that would complain "why aren't we playing him?"........

complete catch 22.......simply cannot win either way.

There's no depth at CB. If he gets injured who's playing CB?

Hefney returned punts last year so I don't think you can not play guys in case they get hurt in the future. That approach will not win games.

ah, we have plenty of DB's, just none that are proven commodities............i say letting Berry return kicks, especially given our complete and utter disfuction in that aspect of the game lately, can only help........

Yeah, hes gone until he gets his &^*& together and then when he does it will be up to CPF as to when he is able to play again. Im sure CPF will suspend him at least a game or 2 after he is able to come back. no telling how many games he will miss getting his *&(% straight.

Agreed.

I just saw where this suspension is most likely the result of a violation of the substance abuse policy. If this is true and if this suspension holds for at least the first game...a very important game against Cal...then my personnal opinion is that this could be egg in the face of Urban Meyer...as we all know full well how he handled a similar situation with Marcus Thomas last year. You can rip Fulmer for being lax with players in the past..but at least when he lays the law down its truly a punishment and not just for appearances. If he followed the Urban meyer approach for suspending players over substance abuse then Coker would sit out Arkansas St. UL-Lafayette this year

I don't think Fulmer is "punishing" Coker, because this lacks the element of retribution. It's more like Fulmer is giving the kid an incentive to get his life back on track as well as the opportunity to really understand the actual costs and benefits of his choices, which is a-ok in my book. If Coker blows the entire season but returns as an actual better person his Junior year, that's still a positive result. I mean, I care about the team and the season, but I care much more that, over the long run, Tennessee is viewed as a program where young men are turned into capable adults as well as capable football players.

I agree with that.

IMO Berry and Willingham start. Johnson and Gaines are their back-ups.

The drop in talent from Berry to either Johnson or Gaines is significant.

Then Arky is really stupid. They have McFadden and Jones doing KR.

How about USC using Bush? How dumb were they?

I say put the ball in the hands of your best players as much as possible. If EB is the best then put him in.

good post......

Thanks, and its not entirely altruistic either. If playing Tennessee football is perceived by adults as being a positive, character-building experience, then that has to pay dividends in recruiting. I mean, it's not like these kids don't involve their parents in their school choices.

I could see Berry not starting right away. To my knowledge he has never played the cornerback position so we don't how much talent he has at that position. He is fast and athletic but it might take time for him to adjust to covering college wr's.

Our return game has been terrible and if he can make an impact I say let him return kicks.

The part about him never playing corner actually has me really excited. He went to the Army AA game and was the top corner there after 2 practices and from reports he is picking up everything very quickly.
