LaMarcus Coker suspension

Shouldn't the doctors writing the subscriptions we held accountable?
In some cases, yes. But you can become addicted to pain killers on a normal prescription. Ultimately, it is the patient's responsibilty to not abuse the medications as well as inform the physician of any side effects or addiction issues. Blaming the MD is just another example of our litigous society not taking responsibilty for thier own actions and trying to make money off of a lawsuit.

BD, love that sig. Most every one of these cases that I see on a daily basis starts with a prescription. The only exception is the teenager that thinks it would be fun to start snorting oxycontin.

On very few occasions it is appropriate to hold the drug companies accountable. Xanax, for instance, was marketed as non-addictive, which it most certainly is not. In these cases the Drs. are sold a bill of goods from the pharm reps.

The flip side is once these people become addicts, they can account for hundreds of dollars in administrative costs for docs. They call incesantly, and become a huge liability. By then, they have dropped all sense of personal responsibility, they want their drugs, and they don't care how they get them.

I say we give drug addiction a guitar shot to the head. Maybe you could give Coker one and help him get his mind right. :p

I am all for drug company reform. I am not saying that all MDs are perfect, but for the most part I feel that people don't want to take the blame for "things that happen" in medicine. That is why I inform all my patients about the heavily addictive qualities of narcotic pain meds. There needs to be more care taken in educating patients about medications. But IMO, it is ultimately the patient's responsibility to take care of his or her self. Unless they are mentally insane-then you get me on another soapbox. One day we need to sit down and have a couple of beers and hash out mental health and addiction.

But back to Lamarcus, I hope we get him back. We are deep at that position, but I think he has the most talent.

I agree 100% about the meds and the beers. Very subtle humor BTW, and very funny.

BD, I do agree that it is ultimately the pt's responsibility in anything concerning their healthcare. If they don't know or don't understand, then they should ask. That being said, there are some doctors out there that are into making the buck. I speak from experience on a case where I reside. All the drug seekers know to go to this particular doctor. If you have 'back pain', 'kidney stones' (easy to fake blood in urine), or other 'pain', this dr. is the one to see. Rarely are x-rays, CT's, MRI's obtained...just scripts. Yes, he has been turned into the state board...yes he was put on probation...yes, he still prescribes heavily, he just tends to document it better now. Point being, although these type of cases aren't too widespread, it's out there. Just find your local druggie and they'll point you in the right direction.

For the record, I am in the medical profession, just not a doctor.

As far as Lamarcus goes, it sounds as if the choice is his whether he wants to be a team player or not.

I don't know if we will ever know about what substance he is using. I just hope he gets the help he needs. The kid has a ton of talent and the world ahead of him. I hate to see him get passed by. Get him some help, get him clean (if he is using), and give him another shot. If he burns you again....well then he may not be cut out for football.

After talking some at length about the Coker ordeal, I, along with the guy I was speaking to,have come to the conclusion that what Coker has done is because he absolutely no respect for Coach Fulmer. He can stay off the team as far as concerned.Thoughts?

You probably have a better idea of exactly what happened than I do. I honestly don't have enough info to go on.

As far as kickoff returns this could actually help us. Coker has great speed but lacks vision. It will give some of the new guys a chance to show what they can do in an area where we desperately need help.

As far as RB it helps us lose depth with guys who have played snaps. I still see him back before the Cal game.

 He really struggled finding the endzone last year.

A lot of players have little to no respect for Fulmer.

I thought Coker failed some drug tests. I actually think Fulmer likes him, most anyone else would have been kicked off the team.

it just seems like coker has always been in fulmers doghouse, even though he has probably done stuff 2 deserve it. i do think if he was to kick coker off the team then that would just lead to more fulmer bashing and people wanting his head for kicking the most dynamic player on the team off

CPF gives him mult. chances, finally kicks him off (don't know yet) and it's Fulmer's fault??

I'm also not sure he's the most dynamic on the team.

David Cutcliffe does not share your thoughts on Coker being a young man who is disrespects his coaches...
“When a guy is totally wrong and what I consider a bad apple to the rest of the team, then you get rid of him as fast as you can. The program is always bigger than the individual.”
He doesn’t put Coker in that category.
“I don’t feel that way right now at all,” Cutcliffe said. “I know some things about him that maybe a lot of people don’t know, that are his private business.”

Excepting that you may be thinking that his different problems may indicate a lack of respect, I really don't know how you could land at such a conclusion. I'm not going to dump on the kid when I don't know what is going on.
