Latest Coronavirus - Yikes

Wow, everytime you think it cant get dumber, it does.

The irony is that ending the consequences of racism is a long term fix and the protests will have little to no short term impact on the problem. Alternatively there are direct consequences of the shut down (pain/suffering/suicide/mental health) and long term (economic downturns are bad for public health) yet those are deemed irrelevant by those that signed this letter. Only the problem they choose counts.

As a side note, it also shows you the value of thousands of "experts" signing a letter condemning something. The value is zero.

New York City Democrat: 'Blame racism' if coronavirus cases spike after George Floyd protests

A New York City Council Democrat is blaming racism for a potential rise in cases of the coronavirus after a week of nationwide protests over the death of George Floyd.

Mark Levine, chairman of the council's health committee, on Wednesday instructed those worried that mass gatherings would lead to an uptick in COVID-19 cases to "blame racism" instead of a lack of social distancing.

"Let's be clear about something: if there is a spike in coronavirus cases in the next two weeks, don't blame the protesters," Levine tweeted. "Blame racism."

Tens of thousands of people poured into the streets of major U.S. cities over the past week in the wake of Floyd's death while in the custody of Minneapolis police. Many commentators have questioned why such large demonstrations are allowed to take place after people who protested the coronavirus lockdowns were accused of endangering the elderly and those more susceptible to contracting the virus.

Public Health Experts Have Undermined Their Own Case for the COVID-19 Lockdowns

"But when it comes to the protests against police brutality, many medical experts think there should be an exemption to the COVID-19 lockdown logic.

More than a thousand public health experts signed an open letter specifically stating that "we do not condemn these gatherings as risky for COVID-19 transmission. We support them as vital to the national public health and to the threatened health specifically of Black people in the United States.""

We have been lied too

Lied? I'd describe it as a case of bias - these public health officials have chosen what consequences of a lockdown and what activities are trivial and which are important.

The lie from this group is saying they are driven by data/science. They are driven by science/data until it runs counter to their worldview.

I really don’t think they are basing it off science.... I think they are manipulating stats to make it sound worse than it is.... we are finding that people can test positive up to three to four months after initial diagnosis..... I am almost positive they are not contagious that long.

I'm in NW Georgia...we are wide open...seeing about 35% wear mask in stores
I’m m in LaFayette. Things aren’t quite wide open. Most fast food places are still drive through only and Toki Japanese and #1 Chinese are carry out only.

What happened to all the corona bro’s on here fear peddling? I would love for somebody to explain this one.

I believe the reply was aimed at your trivialization of the economy just being "stuff" that's easily replaceable. Even the esteemed Dr. Fauci recognizes that damaging the economy is a public health problem.

... and I agree. So... what's the solution?

The stats are very interesting right now.

States that hit very high rates of infection like New York, New Jersey, and Massachusetts continue their retreat down in hospitalizations and deaths/day. It seems that given the number that have had it combined with transmissibility in warmer weather, R(t) is still staying well below 1 with no signs whatsoever of an uptick in these states.

On the other hand, you have states like North Carolina and Arizona where deaths/day had fallen off their peak but are now steadily increasing again. Neither of these states saw high rates of infection, but both are warm.

It seems like we are teetering on the edge of R(t)=1 and factors like transmissibility and extent of infection are really going to matter when it comes to the amount of activity that doesn't lead to a spike in deaths. But, this could present quite an opportunity. If this thing slow burns with psuedo-normal activity all summer, perhaps you can slowly build up enough infections that when winter comes back around again, you don't see any geographies run away.

I don't know how many minorities have died of COVID, but you can rest assured police kill 50 times that number every year.

What they have said is your "right to a haircut" is trumped by their march for human rights, therefore they are justified and the prior protests were not. A lot of the people protesting the lockdowns wanted their damn jobs and businesses back. So I guess we need to decide in what order we value life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.

then people better get those cell phones out and start filming them
They use their spy drones to block your cell signal so you can't record man. It's so obvious.

If you get bored tonight there's a stream on Twitch called WOKE and he just aggregates live protest streams and shows them simultaneously. The people running the streams make the people in the Q thread look completely normal. They are always convinced here come the cops to beat us senseless, they are mindless pigs with a thirst for blood. When the cops don't do anything it's because they're scared of the cameras or the crowd, or they've been worn down by all the cool chants the crowd does. When they do push the crowd it's because they know they're being filmed and that helps them subjugate the populace. The cops have LRADs they will deploy at any moment, when they don't it's because they're broken or "the people in charge" (who are also fascists) told them to stop. The cops are never provoked, they simply attack with no warning. People in Iowa City were trying to get onto the interstate and the cops were stopping them and they couldn't believe the pigs would do such a fascist thing like not let them walk on the interstate at night. It's pretty entertaining.
