So I dont know if this is a thing elsewhere, as it's what I was told way back in March. But here in GA they are still recommending you not go to a hospital to get tested. That's not saying dont get tested, just dont do it at a hospital. Find one of the testing centers. Preferably a drive up.
Someone I know down here just talked to their PCP about what to do because he was exposed and they said use a testing center not a hospital.
This got me thinking about the reasons why? One obvious is not strain the healthcare workers so they can focus on helping the sick.
The second is the spread.
We are testing about 7% positivity. So if you use a drive up you arent exposed to anything new. Or at worst what ever lingers from the 7% before you. Pretty good odds you dont have it even if exposed.
However, you go to a hospital and you are around people who 100% have it, and are working with health care workers who have been heavily exposed to it.
When I first talked with my PCP I just thought it was so I didnt spread to others. But the flipping the argument makes a lot of sense to me as well.
Idk just shower thoughts.
