Latest Coronavirus - Yikes

Let's not lose sight of the fact that deaths are not the only thing with this disease. It has lingering effects in some recovered folks. Months later some are saying that they still can't "catch their breath" like before. Others are reporting scarring in their lungs.

My father is a polio survivor. He now has what they call post polio syndrome. For him that means that he can barely walk and needs a scooter or a walker in order to move anywhere. Polio was the virus of his generation.

This is not a disease we can poo hoo. It's not worthy of a shut down of our economy but it's not as simple as writing it off as only killing the compromised either

This is the problem with delaying treatment until symptoms become so bad that hospitalization is required. At first signs of symptoms these people need to be given HCL or the steroid Budesonide. Hospitalizations could approach near zero.

Attributing: the virus didn't just kill a healthy peson, it is people who are more susceptible (common sense) as in the elderly, who are more probable to have any thing have a greater affect on them and their health. People who are fat and overweight, have high blood pressure, crappy circulation, weak hearts, weak immune systems, and those with diabetes and so on and so on.

So, they, whether through this virus or any other type of external factors, we can say the virus was not the cause, but, a factor along with other internally present personal "issues" or forms of deficiency that allowed the attributing factor, the virus, to wreak more havoc on a weaker body and thus cause death.

I know you are in med school, but, the reality is those dying were not "healthy" people to begin with. And, if we assume that of the 130,000+ deaths that there have been less than 1,300 healthy people die, yes, 99% probability we could see that existing issues are the main cause that made the virus deadly.

I look at it as a contributing factor, and yes, had they not gotten the virus they probably wouldn't have died when they did.

However, the virus, as a killer, is not a contributing factor to healthy people, so, the virus in and of itself isn't killing people, it is killing susceptible people who could have easily been killed by any other type of virus or illness.

I understand your train of thought. But COVID is the cause of death and a preexisting chronic condition is a risk factor for increased mortality. You are implying that diabetes (for example) is the cause of death, and COVID attributed to death due to diabetes. That simply isn’t how it works.

I wouldn't say one or the other is the cause, just, combined, allow for the worst results. The virus almost is an accelerant to an already existing fire. Where as, the healthy can extinguish the accelerant trying to create a fire.

But, yes, I concur (little reluctantly lol) with you sir.

How long to get covid test results in TN? Got a moderately sick family member. Told it takes 7-10 days to get results. If that's the standard, the numbers you're seeing from the spike in Tennessee are really from tests done a week to two weeks ago.

How about all those protesters has it been two weeks yet ? Are you still waiting for those results ?

So no social distancing and limited mask wearing didn’t make a difference or cause big spikes in deaths and hospitalizations?

Probably not. It's all about being outdoors. There's very little risk of spread outdoors even if it's a Trump rally

In. An. Outdoor. Setting. With. People. Moving.

And a good number of them wearing masks.

Not the same as crowding into church pews, bars and restaurants.

Swapping sweat, getting in each other’s faces , body to body contact , what’s a good number of mask wearers in a crowd of thousands ?

Please read and tell me why these known and safe treatments aren’t being offered for patients with mild to moderate symptoms. There is literally NO plan for such. Why? Please tell me!
