Latest Coronavirus - Yikes

Who the hell is unaware of risks associated with covid at this point?

Didn’t you and others say there was almost no risk to young people under 25? Are you 100% sure about that? We learn everyday about longer lasting effects from people who had very mild disease. Again, put yourself in the seat of an entity making decisions about whether or not to play. I wish it wasn’t that way, but it is.

JMO....But like MLB it's not about how sick it makes a player (we hope) and it's not about deaths (we hope and pray) it's more about the snowball effect on future games much how it's effected MLB in just the first week where several games/series have been postponed and some coaching staffs have been infected too .....Where players that were infected are now isolated in hotel rooms a long way from home. It's a lot more to it than how sick it makes a athlete.

Hope we have a season....but I wouldn't bet $100 if we start we will finish.

Yes. Anything learned in the future is not something to be held responsible for when it wasnt none.

The line of thinking the poster demonstrated is a big reason why the virus continues to spread. Young people thinking they are invincible and being careless. It’s not in-American to say that, it’s my opinion rooted in logic and knowledge available to anyone.

"Do as you're told because the government says so" doesn't sit as well with some as it does with others. And thank God for that. Because when everyone is as obedient as some of us seem to be then that's the end of the USA as we know it. There are a lot of facts and good reasons why we should be suspicious of leaders who have repeatedly lied to us in the past. They cite "experts" to give their claims validity, but not all experts agree. Even the ones they like have given contradictory information and some of their predictions have proven to be inaccurate. Simply dismissing questions as "part of the problem" is as un-American as you can get. Every tyrannical government that ever came to power started off that way.

But a lot of things that will be “learned in the future” are probably out there already, and just don’t have as much consensus behind them yet

Yeah, I mean Europe is much closer to being back to normal than we are, but at least we’re not obedient like them amirite?

This is not popular, but I’d rather bypass this season than have to settle for a watered down version of college football that neither the fans, coaches, or players feel good about. I understand both sides of the issue, though.

What concerning covid?

For one, a number of reports of athletes and other healthy young individuals suffering continuing complications post-COVID. If later studies confirm that there are widespread effects, then letting them play without properly addressing those risks could easily be construed as endangerment, just like with CTE

So dont play. What is the debate?

If there are enough that want to play then they shouldnt be expected to hit pause on the world until everyone is else is ready.

Hopefully by September 26 we will have herd immunity.

For herd immunity to kick in the experts (if there really is such a thing) say that 20% of the population must be exposed to the virus.

20% of the US population is roughly 65MM people, and there are currently right at 4.5MM cases in the US. However, antibody tests are suggesting that the number that have been exposed is 13X that amount. That puts the number exposed at roughly 58.5MM.

Yes, with CTE the players also had a choice to "just not play" and not risk head injuries. The NFL is still facing CTE lawsuits anyway. I'm saying I could see the same thing happening here, with a league generally charging forward without knowing/doing much investigation into the risks.

I really want there to be college football, especially with the conference only schedule. I’m more excited for that, than normal.

But realistically, I don’t see anyway it will happen unless the numbers suddenly drop like a rock. I don’t think the colleges will make it very long meeting in person, and if the school lets out, then football will stop too. Our local school system was supposed to begin Monday, and we didn’t even make it to that. One of our teachers is positive and they had contact with staff on inservice day, and we have to shut down for 2 weeks before we even started. I just don’t see how a major university with thousands of of people coming in and out can make it very long.
