Latest Coronavirus - Yikes

I stand behind my prediction I posted back in early July that there won’t be a single down of football played on any level in 2020. Hope I’m wrong, but when baseball is about to collapse over a few outbreaks football doesn’t stand a chance

I still have some hope for the NFL, but there’s a good chance you’re right. College football is probably the least likely sport to happen

It will be a mess. Look at what is happening with MLB, and then add fans, students that the players may interact with regularly, and rosters that are ~triple the size of MLB rosters. Colder weather probably won't help either

They will get it regardless of whether football is played or not. Campus opens in a few weeks.

Perhaps you're aware of how 18-22 year olds behave on a college campus.

On this I disagree. The earliest CFB games will get played, then an outbreak will happen, then they will pull the plug.

That’s why some programs are trying to delay football until late September - they want to see how it spreads on campus first. And it will, which is why football will never get off the ground

I'm not buying a subscription to the Washington Post. If student athletes don't want to play, next man up. If you don't understand the economic impact(s) of playing SEC football this fall, you need to get an education. Are there risks? Sure! People are suffering brain damage, bad knees, all sorts of things from playing football. There are people dying from cancer, wrecks, heart disease, alzheimer's, gun violence, and on and on. I support opening up and playing. If you do not play, you lose your scholarship. Simple as that. This concept of taxpayers or fans paying for you to get an education and not playing football or working to pay for it is ridiculous. That dog don't hunt. It is a free country. Free not to work and free to go get a job.

They're not obligated to do a damn thing including risking their lives to satiate your childish desires to "have to have me sum footballs" at any cost.

If it spreads, which we agree it will, then in a few weeks it will have less people for which to spread to.

Reports have come out for weeks now of players infected. And you know what all those cases amounted to? Nothing. Why? Because this thing is nothing to healthy young individuals.

Agree for the most part with you, but school administrators and athletic departments don’t want to get handed lawsuits 5-10 years from now from players who were “coerced to play” after being told COVID was harmless and now they claim to have permanent lung damage. Sounds a little out there, but that’s the world we live in - no one wants the liability or to be blamed for anything negative

There is no coercion.

You are above 18 and making your choice to play.

You are part of the problem with that line of thinking

Disagree with me and you are not merely a fellow human being with a differing opinion, you are part of the problem. I can't think of anything less American than that. The inability of a large part of our population to deal constructively with people who disagree with them is a much bigger threat to our survival than any virus, IMO.

Maybe, but we don't know of possible long term effects. What if it eventually cuts 10 years off your life from organ damage.....We don't know and either do you.......

"...several football players raised concerns about their safety..."

There's about 1200 players on SEC football teams but "several" are to be the deciding factor?
Isn’t that the way everything works right now? From politics, to sexual orientation to sports. It’s the new way of the world. We are going to have to deal with it.

We dont. And being alive, whether you are playing football or not means you are susceptible to getting it.

So the choosing to not play is irrelevant. Unless you want to live in a bubble forever.

That’s not how lawsuits work - all the plaintiffs would have to do is claim they felt pressure to play and were not informed of all the health risks associated with COVID. Not saying they would win, only that these types of claims and suits are what keep school chancellors up at night

Who the hell is unaware of risks associated with covid at this point?

The line of thinking the poster demonstrated is a big reason why the virus continues to spread. Young people thinking they are invincible and being careless. It’s not in-American to say that, it’s my opinion rooted in logic and knowledge available to anyone.

Well not really going to spend any more time to debate the value of masks and social distancing. If you are not convinced yet, nothing I can do to change your mind, nor do I care to.
