Latest Coronavirus - Yikes

Mocking a reporter with a disability. Disparaging a Gold-Star family. I'll leave it at that but I'm sure those of us with heads not inserted firmly in asses know I could go all day... Please turn off Fox for 3 seconds, the network that freaked when Obama wore a tan suit.

Ha, you cry "infantile",,, good stuff...
Turn off all the news media..... they are all the same

Is this the first ever recession by government edict? That's what makes the entire thing truly bizarre. But honestly it's been four months of this mess and you've changed people's habits permanently. My anniversary is Thursday, the in laws offered to watch the kids "so we could go somewhere" but where the hell would we go? My wife wants nothing to do with being in a restaurant, picking something up from a decent place would mean eating it on a park bench or a blanket since it would be cold by the time we got home. We could take a stroll down by the river with our masks on dodging strangers as if they were lepers. That sounds romantic and worthwhile. I thought this would be over quickly and stupidly believed 2 weeks was going to be it. Here we are four months later and this **** is seriously weighing on people's mental health. I'm honestly surprised there aren't more "Karen" videos out there. We have kept people in a completely abnormal state of limbo for months where some people are pretending things are fine and some people are telling you to update your will. We have taken away their ability to earn a wage, to spend that wage, to relax and recreate, to worship, to socialize, to do human things. There are lots of other things going on in people's lives outside of this pandemic and you have no idea what will push them over the edge. The economic webinars I've been on don't see us returning to anything close to normal before 2023. The damage this will wrought on the average person is going to be immense and long lasting.
I appreciate your post. Just arriving at work this morning, and reading your comments, I think how incredibly lucky I am that my small business does not depend on dealing directly with the public or on customers whose businesses are among those being forced to stay closed in many areas. We are indeed headed for a long recession if not a depression. I feel for those who have lost their livelihood and/or business due to the pandemic... there but for the grace of God go I... and homelessness, which was already out of control, is going to be the next epidemic. This year 2020 cannot end soon enough.

I just haven't noticed much difference. I know those in the NYC area were locked down pretty tight, but around here, not so much. I rarely eat out or go to bars etc..

Maybe more than I've realized, though.
Being in Atlanta we see more shut downs than most.

If it was up to the mayor, everyone would be shut down. Except for grocery stores and take out.

That might be the case, but there were still plenty of jobs and the unemployment rate had been steadily dropping. Now there are less jobs and a higher unemployment rate. Companies are going to worry about getting their balance sheets right, and turning a profit before a lot of those unemployed come back to work. In the mean time those unemployed are going to have to choose between putting a roof over their head or buying food. That might've been a problem for some, but for the most part if you worked you had what you needed. Now we are looking at years of people not being able to afford what they need.
You are going to see another 2008 in real estate as well. Demand for office spaces has plummeted. Even new housing is taking a hit, people dont have the money to do the large projects. Around atlanta you are seeing construction that was already in the works proceeding. But once that batch dries up it's a big question mark.

Government work is the only stuff still coming out that doesnt go thru months long holds.

I'm sure that would hold true for all countries. You're trying to hard to spin this.
Sweden success/failure all hinges on if there are multiple waves. If the rest of the world gets hit multiple times how do you think the death rate will look then?

I'm afraid you are correct. We're seeing capital projects drying up, long planned facility upgrades being put off and in some cases just plain stupid business decisions mad out of fear.

I'm not going to venture a guess. Haven't seen any research on the percent of the Sweden population carrying the T-cells comparative to the rest of the world.

No they don't and the people they are and will be hurting the worst are the ones they claim they want to lift up and help.
As always they care more bout being seen to care/protect than they are actually protecting and caring for people.

In their minds you (the government) always HAS to do something, without ever considering the long term. They are short sighted to the point where they create long term issues.

And once those long term issues pop up they want short term fixes again. They want to feel good, not get good.

Well said.

What they fail to understand is their actions actually help enrich the people they claim to hate or at least want to bring down to a level playing field.
