Latest Coronavirus - Yikes

Oddly enough, I agree. Our testing strategy is so inept and incoherent that it’s pointless to get tested in many cases because by the time you get the information back it’s irrelevant. Regardless, the US represents 4.25% of the world population and 23% of the world covid deaths, so what do you suggest to turn these embarrassing numbers around?
We should just stop testing and our numbers will start coming down also. Pretty simple.

You are the one wanting the whole team hurt just so the score doesnt look so bad.

It's not just those that die that are having their lives ruined. And so far zero thought has gone to how it is impacting those tens of millions of others. It's not wrong or greedy, to say, hey what about these people?

You quit playing the slow the spread prevent deaths game and started playing "open the economy" with the I'm not wearing masks group as your teammates.

Here is where I'm at, slow the spread and watch some football on TV and maybe next year go to a game. As @VolGirl81 illustrated, it affects all of us differently. I think we have a decent balance right now considering herd immunity is still in doubt.

The rest of the world wants a vaccine too, but they haven’t done as bad as we have. Again, we are the worst in the world, what would you suggest to improve upon that?
Worst how?

Not in case fatality (12th and less than a 5th of number 1) or deaths per 100,000 (4th and number 1 has universal healthcare)
Mortality Analyses

But oh no, we have the most people with a disease after we have done the most tests.

If natural herd immunity doesnt work, vaccine based herd immunity doesnt work.

And if it doesnt work how do you explain sweden and New York?

I'm not trying to explain Sweden and New York. How would you explain it? What is your instrumentation.

Worst how? We have 4% of the population and a quarter of the deaths... you can’t see this is a problem?

The most frustrating part is that this is basically a starter pandemic of which our mistakes were predictable and preventable. What happens when we have an extremely deadly novel virus pandemic and fumble it the same way?

They got thru it. Diseases push thru places naturally. Like fires, it has to spread to stay alive, once it is pinned down it burns itself out.

Maybe we offer more money for things like gunshots to be classified as Covid deaths than other countries. Perhaps we have a much broader definition of 'Covid death' than others.

Well I wish they would not jump at the opportunity. I was diagnosed with lupus a month ago and having some crazy symptoms. My dr put me on hydroxychloroquine and had to jump thru hoops to get it for me. My insurance will only let me get 8 days worth of pills. Pharmacy will not autofill, so I have to call every 6 days to get it approved. Bull$hit

Sorry to hear that VolGirl, my daughter has had it for about 10 years. It is very challenging, but she has done well with it. It has also brought her other problems, just last week diagnosed with Shingles.
As soon as she got Lupus she immediately started eating mostly organic foods, and juicing vegetables and fruits with high immune features. That has helped her the most.
Her Dr. tried to increase her hydroxychloroquine because of covid19, but the supply is now becoming an issue.
I always enjoy your posts in the football thread, hang in there!

I dont know. But I do know that tanking our economy, which includes health care, so that we have no way to address that second disease is not a good idea.

I know that making us more dependent on the government, which as you noted has failed us, is also not a long term winning strategy.

The total of the world is pretty meaningless as you are looking at it. What's our total number of Covid sick compared to the world? We have just under 5 million Covid infections, world total is 19 million. Which is 26% of total infected.

So 23% of the deaths is better than average seeing as how we have a higher number of infected cases. us covid infections vs world - Google Search

Not sure if that link takes you right to the chart, but Google has it own page for this.

Update on my son - just to give you an idea of how the virus could affect you. He's 31 and in perfect health. Yesterday was day 12. His fever reached 100.8, which is good. It was the first day it didn't go over 101. About half those days it was over 102 at some point. He's lost 15 pounds. Severe sore throat like strep at first which improved after day 5. Body aches like having been beaten. Severe headache. Loss of sense of taste and smell. 2 hours is the most he's been out of bed in a day. Overwhelming exhaustion. Lots of coughing. No nausea at first but that kicked in about day 7. Pin prick type pain on his legs and back for a few days (he says it was like the way shingles is described) but that got better. Luckily no breathing problems. Today is day 13. He just texted me and says he feels slightly better and his temp is still under 100, but it's always lower in the morning and goes up as the day goes on. Maybe today is the turning point. Nasty stuff. You don't have to be old or sick to get hit hard with this thing.

His girl friend lives with him in Key West. She tested positive a few days after him. Her symptoms have been very minor, about like seasonal allergies.
