Latest Coronavirus - Yikes

Of course it didn’t.
The flu continually migrates between the two hemispheres. The lockdowns in the spring in the northern hemisphere greatly lessened it's prevalence in the southern hemisphere, which resulted in very little spread there. With the continuing decrease in travel (as well as all the covid precautions being taken) there was not much opportunity for it to spread back to the northern hemisphere this fall. This is not some grand conspiracy to count flu deaths as covid deaths.

Sounds like masks are much more effective preventing the flu than C19. I think that's the pertinent discussion to be had here. Are these masks effective at preventing that tiny little C19 virus ?

Health experts have been predicting since the summer that flu season would not be bad this year. I betcha @kiddiedoc agrees.
I do. Less travel (esp international), less social interaction, less likelihood of different strains moving around, less likelihood of the vaccine "missing." I think we will see some after the kids get back to school in January, though. That's when things usually pick up here.

Less testing for flu is also a reason. My wife had all the symptoms of the flu, but they only tested her for COVID. She was negative but now there is no record of her possibly having the flu, only a negative COVID test. This is common from what I hear, anecdotally of course.

Now granted, it looks like the FDA is reversing this, but still... what a disaster and slap in the face.

FDA told to halt 'arbitrary' $14,000 fees on US distilleries for making hand sanitizer during pandemic

The federal government worked closely with distilleries when they began producing the hand sanitizer, which was short in supply at the time. And the FDA had said the fee is because the businesses were labeled as temporary non-prescription drug manufacturers. The FDA said the charge is related to the cost it has in regulating the over-the-counter drugs, which is what hand sanitizer is categorized as.

Looks like we found one less thing for the FDA to regulate. I mean, how dangerous can hand sanitizer get? Why is there need for FDA regulation for this product?

An aside about the virus with no agenda :

I found out yesterday that one of my friends back home lost his battle with Covid 19 yesterday morning. This is the second virus related death in their family in two weeks, as his youngest daughter buried her father in law last week. God be with their families.

Ralph was a Marine and a Volunteers fan. He was always wearing something from one of the two organizations. Oorah Devil Dog; we'll see you on the other side.

Sorry to hear about your friend. Be safe and Happy New Year!

Because some may label the product as 70% alcohol, when in fact it may be only 50 or 60%.

If I am not mistaken...some of that Mexican sanitizer got recalled because of toxic methanol. But I get your comment.

Nor did I say that. But many deaths have been attributed to “Covid” that are completely false. That’s fact. Ergo, we really don’t know the total number of Covid deaths. My guess is they are quite a bit lower than the stated number. I’ve had Covid, not a denier, not
anti-masker (although I do doubt it’s effectiveness overall looking at how this has played out for a year now), but there is a game being played wrt listing the cause of death in many cases. And we know why.

But I thought lefty has been saying that Brazil was a disaster. LOL

It is! A hot chick bomb went off down there decades and decades ago. Place has never been the same since. I’d go back to international just to take in those views again.
