Latest Coronavirus - Yikes

How can caution and distancing crater flu numbers but we see record covid numbers? Shouldn't both be affected? If not why are we doing the masks and distancing?
We would have to understand how the two viruses are similar/dissimilar in terms of resiliency to understand how the transmissions differ.

Or the experts should have known the same thing before pushing mandates.

The fact of the matter is that we havent seen a similar drop off in numbers between places with hard mask mandates and other programs and those without, to match the drop in flu. Or even somewhat comparable drops.

You are correct. The data is irrefutable.

Personally, I believe distancing and frequent hand washing are the most important factors in halting transmission. No data to support that idea. It's a hunch.

How do you wash your hands if you have to stand 6 feet away from the sink?

It's amazing to me (but also not really) that the vaccine rollout is going as badly as it is. Instead of looking at the population and segmenting it into manageable chunks based on available doses and capacity, every state and county has gone with arbitrary age cutoffs that do nothing to account for their demographics. But since no one votes in the Health Department I guess they can screw this up as much as they want.

When the government is involved with Medicine, nothing should surprise you.

"But COVID-19 also appears to produce many other brain-related symptoms ranging from seizures to psychosis, a team reports in the Jan. 5 issue of the journal Alzheimer's & Dementia. The team, which included de Erausquin, says severe COVID-19 may even increase a person's risk of developing Alzheimer's disease."

How COVID-19 Attacks The Brain And May Cause Lasting Damage

"Articles" like this one with all the bold (by me) conditional phrases are just a tad better than clickbait garbage.

Having a disease that sends you to the hospital is traumatic. Glad we got the science on that. Never would have been able to figure it out otherwise.

Fascinating perspective.

I know when I trip there's always that brief moment of uncertainty as I ponder the probability of gravity's effect right before I fall.

I'm non-neurotypical so I can't tell the intent of your sarcasm. That's on me. So please don't take this next statement as condescension.

Science can only speak in specificity about previous outcomes, and probabilities about future outcomes. The probability of you falling because of gravity is p > 0.01, which means your chance is greater than 1%. That greater than 1% can go all the way up to 99.9999999999999999999%+, but it can never be 100% because that's not how probabilities work.

When others are admonished to "trust the science" we are actually being instructed to trust the probability. At what percentage of probability does science become trustworthy?

The acceptable probability levels to reject the null hypothesis in non-medical research is p>0.05 (5%) and medical research is p>0.01 (1%).

What would you estimate the probability to be in the article you shared?
