Latest Coronavirus - Yikes

So is Knox county having issues getting vaccines rolled out? My dad said he couldn't ever get one and went over to grainger county with no issues. His friend went to Morristown and had no issues either.

Just curious since the same seems to happen in FL.
I saw an article that said Greeneville has a 40% no show rate for appointments. My guess is people are hoarding spots by signing up multiple times in various places.

This quote reflects one of my biggest issues...

“But the other thing is it's not really fair to say to parents: "Can't you take care of your own kid?" You told me I have to put my kid in school eight hours a day! That is literally a law; it is a law that my kid has to be in school. And now you're telling me that the expectation should also be that I am free for all of that time, even though I'm legally required to not have my kid here. So it's odd that we've set up this whole system in which people are required to go to school and then we're going to be, like, "Well, school's not your child care." You told me it has to be!”

States have literally made it illegal to keep your kid out of school. That opened the door for dual family incomes. Now teachers claim they’re babysitters. It nuts.

If they are just babysitters then perhaps we should change their pay to reflect that.

It's insane. They better be careful, or public schools might just be crafting their own demise.

My mother was on lists in Knox and Loudon Co. She had no luck in Knox when she tried calling. She got through to the Loudon HD two days ago just before lunch and received her first vaccine 3 hours later.

It's an interesting situation - at a time when more citizens than ever will be actively considering "school choice" we have an administration that is more against school choice than any in my recollection.

Will government listen to the people? So far the answer is "no" on this issue.

I’ve been trying to find information about the current spread of the variants. Anyone have any information regarding current testing for these? I’ve been watching positive case rates drop in the UK, South Africa and Florida which had been reported as our US hotspot. But current information on its hospitalization rates and lethality compared to the original are hard to find.

There is a link to the surveillance website and phylogenetic tree. It's interesting, but it may or may not be very helpful.

Well, this is interesting...

Osterholm has been peddling pandemic fear for 15+ years. He was finally the broken clock or blind squirrel. I sincerely hope he goes down with the ship.

Amid Ongoing COVID-19 Pandemic, Governor Cuomo Announces State is Bringing in International Experts to Help Advise the State's Reopening Plan

And most interesting, from his own podcast on July 22, 2020...

“This is a whole country issue,
0:07:00
and I think we have to take some lessons from the state of New York.
You know, I have been very involved with that as some of you know on this podcast. Governor Cuomo asked me several months ago if I'd be one of two people to review, on a daily basis, their numbers on their dashboards relative to reopening or relaxing restrictions or tightening them up, and I have to say to their credit, they have done a remarkable job of monitoring this pandemic in the state of New York, and in the metropolitan area of New York City, and while it's not perfect, it is an example of what can be done. Look at the lack of cases. Look at the lack of deaths in New York compared to the rest of the country, and so we can do this. We can do this.”

thanks. So Florida reported its first case of the UK variant on 12/31/2020 (Florida Identifies First Case of UK COVID-19 Variant).

As of that CDC website, they currently have 433 cases of the UK variant. And their daily cases continue to drop.

I’m just trying to figure out why we keep hearing that March and April are going to bring a variant surge when it’s already been in Florida for 6 weeks with continuing declining cases.

From CNN...

“Again, that's not to say the United States hasn't made progress in driving down case numbers. Early this week, Dr. Ashish Jha, dean of the Brown University School of Public Health, and Dr. Jonathan Reiner, professor of medicine and surgery at George Washington University, both pointed to increased mask-wearing as one reason for declining numbers.”

So is there a way this is actually measured?? Is this raw data that can be proven? Or is this just fitting the narrative that since the 1/20 mask mandate people must be doing it more??

there is no way to measure it - it's BS

Yeah they're just talking out of their ass.
Later on in the article they also give natural immunity some credit for the cases going down...which is practically the only reason the cases have gone down.
