Why is the English-speaking world allowing Covid to defeat it? Tucker Carlson says US, UK, Australia, New Zealand, and Canada are 'committing suicide collectively' with slow erosion of rights

  • Carlson accused governments of destroying civil rights with draconian rules
Tucker Carlson has slammed English-speaking democracies for 'allowing Covid to defeat them' by imposing harsh lockdowns at the expense of civil liberties.

The Fox News host accused the various governments of 'committing suicide' by kowtowing to the virus with draconian restrictions in response to relatively few deaths.

He said on his Fox show: 'The Anglosphere [is] committing suicide collectively.

'Australia, New Zealand, Canada, the United States, and Great Britain, what do they have in common?

'They speak the same language, they have the same culture and all of them are allowing Covid to defeat them.'

China owns the political and bureaucratic power base in all the countries mentioned.

Good. This needs to be done. You don't have to get the vaccine, but you also don't get to be a health hazard to those who actually care about their fellow man.
You’re protected; why are you still so scared? Does your own shadow still cause you to grab a gun, umm I mean a spatula, every time you see it down your hallway?

Studies have shown that acquired immunity is stronger than the protection afforded by the vaccines. If someone has had Covid, they have a legitimate reason to forego the vaccine. Why should those people be discriminated against?

I have no problem with people opting to show recent proof of antibodies as opposed to vaccine to be given the same accomodations.

The private sector should absolutely be able to require proof of vaccination (prior infection) or nothing at all. No level of government has the right to refuse service to the unvaxxed or force private business to discriminate against them.

Which studies?

"studies have found vaccine-derived antibodies are more robust compared to those from natural infection — and the job is done without causing illness or other long-term complications often brought on by the disease.

Two doctors from Italy compared the process of infection and vaccination in relation to variants to the plot of an action movie.

It “begins with a character (the virus) running freely across the globe, eluding capture until being finally sent to jail (built by natural immunity). However, if this prison is not secure enough, the virus could escape, aided by certain mutations,” Dr. Emanuele Andreano and Dr. Rino Rappuoli of the Monoclonal Antibody Discovery Lab, wrote in Nature. “Vaccine-induced immunity… should help ensure those escape routes are securely closed.”

An April study that has not been peer-reviewed found that two doses of either the Pfizer or Moderna vaccines offered 10 times higher levels of antibodies compared to those developed after natural infection.

Another April paper showed that people who were previously infected with the coronavirus experienced significant boosts in their preexisting antibodies after two doses of the Pfizer vaccine, which also offered protection against coronavirus variants."

As we've covered before, the durable immune response is much broader than just spike protein antibodies. Response to natural infection includes antibodies to other glycoproteins and also stimulates long-lasting memory cells.

This just shows the solipsism of the modern GOP. Me, me, me. That's all that matters. Societal good is not a consideration. Except when we make believe for an hour on Sunday morning.

You are such a clown.

Data please. Show me the studies saying (1) natural immunity to covid is more protective than vaccine-based immunity, and, more importantly, that (2) vaccinations, after having acquired natural immunity, do not confer any additional benefit.

The number of hospitalized people in Europe that are vaccinated is concerning. They are not seeing a lot of reinfections, though. We have crappy data here on reinfections, but we are definitely seeing an upswing in vaccinated infections (presumedly from the Delta variant).

Understanding the broader protection of natural immunity shouldn't be that difficult. Would you rather have antibodies to one target or several?

Lots of reinfections with delta in the UK, among both vaccinated and previously infected.

PHE upgrade Delta variant’s risk level due to reinfection risk

What bizarro level of hell have we reached where natural immunity is no longer as good as the synthetic analog to natural immunity?

You can't make that blanket statement. It depends on the disease. Acquiring natural immunity to Polio would be much worse than acquiring immunity thru a vaccine.

PHE upgrade Delta variant’s risk level due to reinfection risk

Well let's look at the data you posted:

"The move came as new figures showed how many people in hospital with the Delta variant have had one or both doses of a Covid vaccine. Between 21 June and 19 July, 1,788 people were admitted to hospital after testing positive for Delta. Of these, 54% were unvaccinated while 30% had received both shots. In total, 3,692 people have so far been admitted to hospital with the Delta variant, of whom 2,152 (58%) were unvaccinated and 843 (23%) were fully vaccinated."

The first bolded phrase suggests that the number of people with natural immunity but not vaxxed must be lower than the number who were fully vaxxed (54 + 30 =84 leaving a max of 16% that had natural immunity though it is likely lower since some in that 16% may have had one shot).

The second bolded tells the same story (58 + 23 = 81 leaving a max of 19% that had natural immunity with the same caveat above).

So thank you for providing data that shows natural immunity is providing more protection from hospitalization than is vaccination immunity.
