Latest Coronavirus - Yikes

yes and no - can't really tell from the data if Delta is more deadly; just that more people have Delta in Florida than they did the other variants.

the post you quoted is getting at the case to death ratio rather than the absolute # of deaths

This despite new therapy's, a 50% vaccinated population and the undergrowth of the sickest of the last wave burned off.

I don't think there's anyway to rationally sugar coat that Florida isn't an absolute train wreck.

Holy smokes, busiest day we've had in a long time. 90% just typical colds/viruses/GI bugs/RSV that usually circulate in the winter. Averaging 2-3 COVID cases/day, none sicker than average colds, thus far, the only distinguishing feature being the odd loss of taste/smell in the older kids.

We took several patients off of our long waiting list when things were slow last season, and I agreed to accept a few other families after personal requests, . . . and we may be regretting those decisions if this continues!

I don't care what his favorability rating is, we are never going to be rid of this engineered virus by being sheep and shutting down every time someone get covid.

I don't disagree about lockdowns, but he's gone full retard - threatening to withhold school funds for districts who require masks of children in school sans religious or MD exemption.

Good, I don't want any kid to wear a mask either, they do more harm than good.

And the kettle that DeSantis is sitting in keeps getting hotter and hotter

So you believe withholding educational funding is better for kids than wearing a mask is bad for them?

Because you being principled in your partisan belief is going to cause them to be worse off than wearing a SpongeBob mask.

OK though... Your opinion is your opinion. DeSantis will pay politically if he enforces that, we're already starting to see the cracks emerge.

Maybe not, I dont doubt they get their day to day numbers wrong, but believe the running total is fairly accurate.

That said, last 3 days for Florida on their site are 1, 6, and 9.

Well, consider I cited that there were 6 in my small county on Monday and 54 for the week - I'd pretty much bet the farm that worldometer is off, by a lot.

He's gone big govt and they love it. I'm appreciative of his efforts to keep the state open and schools in session but he's really taking some bad advice recently

The running total is far off? They are not around 42,000 total deaths?

I don't know, but if this weekly total is any indication or can be extrapolated out - then yeah, I'd say so.

Again, my small county here in Florida has 54 covid related deaths just this week. If worldometer is reporting 16 for the whole state, then there's clearly a disconnect.

wasn't arguing that and I said yes/no because the deadliness of Delta is not clear and just pointing out that more people in Florida are dying now from Covid than at their prior peak doesn't establish the deadliness of Delta.

I've actually praised his handling of the lockdowns during the first wave and still do, but he needs to take heed of his State leading the nation in some pretty terrible categories.

But with these unimaginable death totals it sure hasn't slowed the influx of visitors or new residents. Maybe all those yanks are bringing it down with them. Can't wait for the snow bird migration to spike the numbers

the NYT data shows 6 for the entire state on the last day reported but that's an artifact of how reporting comes in - the 7 day average which somewhat accounts for the variation is around 227 for the state.
