mRNA: Vaccine or Gene Therapy? The Safety Regulatory Issues

COVID-19 vaccines were developed and approved rapidly in response to the urgency created by the pandemic. No specific regulations existed at the time they were marketed. The regulatory agencies therefore adapted them as a matter of urgency. Now that the pandemic emergency has passed, it is time to consider the safety issues associated with this rapid approval. The mode of action of COVID-19 mRNA vaccines should classify them as gene therapy products (GTPs), but they have been excluded by regulatory agencies. Some of the tests they have undergone as vaccines have produced non-compliant results in terms of purity, quality and batch homogeneity. The wide and persistent biodistribution of mRNAs and their protein products, incompletely studied due to their classification as vaccines, raises safety issues. Post-marketing studies have shown that mRNA passes into breast milk and could have adverse effects on breast-fed babies. Long-term expression, integration into the genome, transmission to the germline, passage into sperm, embryo/fetal and perinatal toxicity, genotoxicity and tumorigenicity should be studied in light of the adverse events reported in pharmacovigilance databases. The potential horizontal transmission (i.e., shedding) should also have been assessed. In-depth vaccinovigilance should be carried out. We would expect these controls to be required for future mRNA vaccines developed outside the context of a pandemic.

Who are these people?

Dr. Kate Starbird, a member of CISA’s “Misinformation & Disinformation” subcommittee, lamented that many Americans seem to “accept malinformation as ‘speech’ and within democratic norms.”

Well look how far you all have come, Jha.

We went from -
“There is no debate. Don’t question Science.”
“Lab leak is a racist, dangerous conspiracy theory.”

It's really remarkable to me, how certain people seem to feel about what we know. What the truth is, when you look at the data...it is unclear whether this was a natural spillover or this was a lab leak

It’s not unclear to the Department of Energy. I’m pretty sure that’s one who @lawgator1 was going out of his way to throw water on.
I think there are other agencies that came out and said lab leak was the likely scenario too.

Taking a step back, what would be your thinking if it could be shown definitely that it was a lab leak? We nuke China? They have to pay an insane unknowable fine or compensation? I'm not sure what the end game of the debate would ever be in either event.

Well hold on... why would we/should we have "nuked" China? We helped fund the gain of function research. We should nuke ourselves before we nuke China.

Nope. We do what the 'racist' president was doing. I'll let you do the research.

how about have additional scrutiny on: 1) Gain of Function research; 2) Our funding of labs that are also at least partially controlled by governments of our adversaries; 3) Understand the virus better knowing it's origin; 4) Examine our own public health infrastructure and how it controls information.

just a few things to start.

it's pretty amazing to posit that we wouldn't want to know the origins or that the origins don't matter.

China? You think this is about China??

How about we look internally, at ourselves.

Everyone knows what the score is with China. This ain’t about them.

4) Examine our own public health infrastructure and how it controls information

Yeah, I'm gonna go ahead and give them a huge fat fail on "controlling" information. So called "misinformation" that turned out true was suppressed while the "science" that was touted as the gospel turned out to be false.

Government needs to stay the hell out of the information control business. If anyone disagrees, the obviously didn't live through Covid...

You know, at this point I almost feel sorry for people I see out wearing masks. Three years later and after all the information that's come out, I cannot beat myself stupid enough to grasp why someone would still be wearing a cotton face diaper.

I could almost bet they've been triple vaxxed with every booster out there.

Some people have severely compromised immune systems and have elected to continue to wear masks due to their individual needs and concerns.

Go on and pick the applicable word out of my post, counselor.

"Cotton face diaper."

If it was an N-95, you might have a case. But a tattered and worn mask that looks like one of my yard work work t-shirts ain't gonna cut it.

First, you are correct. I missed the reference to cloth masks.

Second, I don’t recall seeing a cloth one in a long time, actually. I see the occasional N95. Not saying you don't see cloth still, but I don't.

Third, I'm not one of those people that wears one now. So I don't know why they make the choice they make. But I suppose it's their choice, don't you?

You have to ask the question of "why" in regards to wearing a mask now.

Medical reasons... maybe you have a case.

Because of Covid? I laugh at them and their choice. We should be well past the fear at this point.

Ok, so since you don't see it, it doesn't happen?

Clearly this guy has never left his little enclave.

They're still all over in the DC area. Less in NOVA, I've noticed, but once I'm into the city it's probably one of every five or six people with them.

Now, when all that smog was here, I didn't begrudge people for the KN-95s, etc. because they work for that thing. I do begrudge people wearing useless surgical masks and homemade monstrosities though. They're just virtue signals.
