China accuses US of spreading panic.

"Meanwhile, the World Health Organization said Monday it was working around the clock with internet and social media giants to fight widespread misinformation about the outbreak.
'We have worked with Google to make sure people searching for information about coronavirus see WHO information at the top of their search results', Tedros said in opening remarks to the UN health agency’s executive board meeting in Geneva."

Just another sign that this is worse than they want us to know. They are doing everything to keep the public uniformed. Stock up on food supplies.

For clarification: PCR is a laboratory method for amplifying DNA. It can be used replicate viral material in order to make it detectable. Hospital labs now often have the ability to perform this type of testing with a quick turnaround.

However, the rapid "kits" used in most outpatient settings/clinics do not use PCR. They are basically dyed-antibody tests, which have a lower sensitivity, as they require a decent amount of the virus in question to be present in the sample.

That's a roundabout way of saying rapid tests aren't reliable. Take an MD poll and see how doctors really feel about the accuracy of the flu test. My sister has seen people walk into the ER over the past several years who are presenting EVERY symptom of the flu but the test often comes back negative. She will still write a script for Tamilfu if she suspects they have it and doesn't trust the validity of the test result.

Yeah, it's a tough problem. Rapid tests aren't perfect, but the good ones are pretty accurate. I think the ones we use are 80-90% sensitive, but that number is actually higher because it works better in children, for some reason. A complicating issue is that a number of other viruses (RSV, rhino, adeno, corona, paraflu, etc) present with identical symptoms and are clinically indistinguishable. After all, Tamiflu only modestly reduces the duration of flu symptoms and isn't really effective at preventing complications, so it's a quandary every season.

Have you ever seen a patient who initially tested negative for flu and for whatever reason came back relatively quickly(within a day or two) and when/if you retested it showed positive?

Absolutely. Rapid tests require a higher viral presence.

doc are you familiar with treatments that use spliced HIV sequences that help to insert DNA sequences into the person being treated? If that's what we're dealing with here why the need to use HIV sequences to deliver when it is an already occurring bug so to speak?

No difference, both should be hanged.

Definitely never be a doctor but I have done some reading about this. Apparently they spliced it with part of the HIV virus because of HOW the HIV virus attacks each cell individually (different pathogens attack cells in different ways) and also because of how HIV can trick your immune system into not attacking it and responding like it should to a deadly pathogen. If what I have been reading is true, this virus has been genetically engineered by taking SARS like pneumonia virus and splicing in HIV to make it both deadlier and spread more/ mutate faster. Hope it isnt true but there are quite a few factors that would lead a person to believe that this virus escaped from the biological weapons lab located in Wuhan...the epicenter for the outbreak. I am waiting to see more studies and documentation of evidence before I believe that 100%...but it is looking likely.

Ok, that would make some sense, everything I was familiar with it being used for was to insert "desirable" DNA into the subject. In this case it appears they are using it just for delivery and it's qualities of staying under the radar of the hosts antibodies. That makes sense to me now.

Did anyone watch Tucker Carlson last night? He showed a video of a Chinese man filming how bad the virus outbreak is and posted videos online. Eventually the police showed up to his residence wearing mask and claimed he was being quarantined. He refused so they took him into custody and confiscated all his video equipment and hard drives. China is definitely covering something up.

He filmed corpses of coronavirus victims in China. Then the police broke into his home

Dont like this. Cant weight media. It becomes a habit and pretty soon other uncomfortable things get pushed aside.

I have not read of HIV being utilized, but yes, viruses are one of the main types of "vectors" that can be used to insert genetic material into cells ("gene therapy").

I'm not understanding what you are asking in the second question.

It is possible that the viruses underwent recombination in a host cell (possibly even animal vector), if indeed the suspicious material really is from HIV. I hope we get some concrete information soon.

If it is engineered why would they need to use sequences from HIV, which is what has been reported? Would that not be an indicator that there is something possibly even more sinister here like using this to alter people's genes?

I have no verified information that the sequences in question are actually from wild-type HIV virus, and no, inducing a virus to encode and express genes in a host cell is much more complicated than that.
