Leonard Fournette Sitting Out Citrus Bowl

He's been hurt, probably won't require surgery but he has been hurt. I have never had a high ankle sprain let alone two of them but the only way it heals is rest from what I can tell.

Could he technically play? Yes. Should he? No, protect his future and get rest. He shouldn't have played the Florida game.

I would rather Guice anyway, been saying that even last summer.

Exactly. It's better for him and LSU to not play. Guice is awesome and healthy.

They've been claiming injuries and not being "completely healthy" but I really think this this guy has been pulling a Jadeveon Clowney all season.

How does this type of behavior help your draft stock and if the injuries are real how does that not make you think twice about drafting the guy still?

All he's playing for is a scholarship in college. No reason to risk millions over room and board...

What would the reaction on here be if DB sat the bowl game out? I can't imagine the outrage.

I don't see it happening. He could theoretically after he gets a few more sacks but I doubt he's that type of person.

The optics would have been better had he not said anything, traveled with the team, dressed out, sat on the bench and supported his team in a non-physical fashion. That would have been far more classy and garnered much less attention.

The guy that thinks it's ok to put hands on a woman talking about being classy, that's rich.

The only people he remotely owes anything to are his teammates. Do you know how banged up he is? Do you know if he talked to the coaches and his teammates? Do you know how they feel about him sitting? I'm guessing the answer is no to all of the above.

The optics only look bad to people that don't understand that college football is a business. Coaches take other jobs and don't coach the bowl game every year, nobody says anything. But heaven forbid a kid looks out for his and his family's future. Tell me, if Fournette plays in the bowl game and suffers a career ending injury, is the university going to take care of him and his family like saving himself for the pros will?

Smart move.

Unless you are playing in the playoff or playing for a championship, I don't mind this at all. Bowl games are glorified exhibitions.

I bet Jaylon Smith wishes he had.

No problem with this at all. Probably even helps recruiting, because it shows that the coaches care about your long term career.

I agree. He has tried to come in and play in multiple games where it showed he was not 100%. I give him credit for that, and don't blame him for resting it and staying on the therapy at this point. Besides, it's not like he's leaving his team with a gaping void, because, as good as Fournette can be ... they still got Guice.

The guy has been milking the same alleged injury ALL season, yet this same nagging injury conveniently doesn't require surgery. If you don't see through the obvious BS I literally can't help you. If you actually read my last post you'd have seen where I said he didn't actually have to play in the bowl game but making a public statement about it doesn't help anything.

Fournette yards vs Alabama in 3 years at LSU -- 75 (fr) 31 (so) 35 (jr) not exactly great numbers and NFL defenses will be better (although Bama fans can argue that one)

Because they only focused on him. You think they were worried about the infamous LSU passing game?

In my opinion, that one hit propelled his "legend" and earned him the number one overall pick.

Yep. He was already a great player having a great season but the hit was the cherry on top. That hit is also what led him to truly coasting the next season, IMO. He was a unique case where his second-to-last season in college largely got him drafted 1st overall instead of the last one.

I remember him being on the sidelines during the season opener the next year against A&M and when ESPN inquired as to why he was out the coaching staff responded that he was "worn out." This was sometime in the last first, early second quarter. He evidently didn't work out at all that offseason - went to his head.

It was very apparent he shouldn't have been playing against Florida. I said before the season, Guice was best all around back on the team, and I stick with that. Brossette should start to see more reps as he heals from last years knee surgery. I really don't see any drop off at the RB spot with or without Fournette, I actually like the offense better when Guice is in there.

I see no reason for Fournette to risk anything, and I don't see either him or McCaffrey hurting their draft status. Heck, I don't even think Guice has anything to prove at this point.

Spoken like a true non athlete who has never had a high ankle sprain or other sports related injury.

Didn't he supposedly have a bone spur in his foot that nagged him even into the NFL? I do remember seeing him against UNC and the guy got winded incredibly quick.

You're right, that was UNC, not A&M.

He did have a lot of nagging injuries, including not playing the Kentucky game because of a rib muscle strain. His best game that year might have been against us. Didn't play against Coastal Carolina because of the bone spur problem you mentioned.
