I am aware of the story.
I wish that it was the worst or most egregious episode that has ever gone "unpunished" in our criminal justice system.
If putting him in jail would have brought back someone's mother, I would be all for it. Jail isn't a magical place that rehabilitates people, in fact it is the opposite. That might be why so many people who are convicted of that, and perhaps worse crimes, are let go on probation.
Tragedy is tragic. There is nothing worse than piling on by throwing rocks...
I know many people think they know the world by what they read in the newspaper and see on tv. You can usually tell who these people are by their ability to speak in black and white terms. Reality is far different. What Leonard did, or didn't do, is between him, the government, and the family of the victims.
