Let’s talk about Will Brooks

Will brooks has done a fine job and deserves his credit. But the biggest plus of having this d line and line backing core is that yeah he has to make some tackles here and there but they are set up for success. I still think we are gonna see them struggle if anyone can block these dogs we have up front. But idk if anyone really can do that. I have been preaching Tyre West for the longest and he continues to look like a damn beast. And then what about Jackson Moi and Elijah Simmons clogging up them guts. Pili is who he should be and let’s not pass over Arion Carter because the dude is a freakin missile and is gonna be a force for us. This freakin defense gets me so excited because you know James Pearce wants his and still is doing so well with as much attention as he gets. We have that Michigan brotherhood that they had last year I feel. If we don’t have solid tackles that will unfortunately change for sure but we didn’t play the way we will against most upper echelon teams. Stop nagging about us toning it down and enjoy the win. We are getting way too used this season to being in a good spot and even in the OU game we dominated and just played winning football. We are a damn good team but we need heard and Campbell plain and simple. Without 10-2 with 11-1. And I think that’s pretty damn good. Go big orange

I have no idea what you are arguing lol.. Maybe read my post again?

Just saying using TOTAL 3 stars in ANY % calculation is worthless. Time investment by services on the mass of 3 stars from their Rating date to signing is limited on those who peaked as sophmores.

Did y'all notice that Georgia starts a white former walk-on at safety?

You’d think Kirby would have recruited well enough that this wouldn’t be the case. He needs to pick it up on the recruiting trail. Or maybe he just doesn’t know how to evaluate and develop DBs.

he's going to play a lot. he's a good football player. no one knows if he will start but pretty obviously he's going to be seriously in the discussion/getting big game minutes. if you watch the tape from the last two years he is consistently making plays. people give him crap on these forums because they have the disease where they can only see people based on stars they did or didn't get in high school.

not sure it deserves a thread considering the discussion in practice threads about this guy the past few weeks has been close to nonstop

God it’s good to be king of this website

Brooks looks like a starter or just like we have on Oline, a backup that will sub for multiple spots in the secondary and get LOTS of playing time because he knows exactly what everyone should be doing, and where they should be on every play. He knows our defense inside out and back to front because he is sharp and a hard worker. Lost on lots of people these days who only look at star ratings (and skin color if we are being honest, never expecting a white guy to start at DB) is the intelligence factor. There are lots of great athletes who will never be great players at safety, LB, QB, and even WR because they simply can't learn the playbook and know where they should be (and their teammates) on every snap. I can name several former UT players that never reached their athletic potential in the NFL because they simply arent smart enough or won't study. I hope Boo isn't one of them so he can be a starter now at Star from day 1. If he doesn't, it won't be due to athletic ability...it will be because he cannot do it mentally.

There are a few players SO gifted they can be even solid NFL players despite not having it between the ears, like C.P. who never could learn the playbook at UT or the Vikings. There are some positions where you do not need to make reads or learn a playbook, so great athletes can flourish regardless. ( DE Julius Peppers can barely speak English. No way he reads or writes on a 3rd grade level) Peppers was a ProBowl caliber player who signed a $100 million contract, one of the 1st players to do so in the NFL. Brooks doesn't have incredible physical talents like some other players but he has enough talent, intelligence, experience, and dedication that his 4* peers cannot take the job from him and keep him off the field. The coaches love Brooks and I think he will make a name for himself this season.

From page 2 in this thread.

Brooks got the game ball today after several TD saving tackles AND the pick that sealed the win. He deserves to be a Tennessee Legend. Hope he never pays for a meal or a beer again in the best state in the union. GO VOLS
