The opposite safety was already heading over and prob would have had a play in the ball if he throws deep. It was covered and Will made a great read. That's called confidence in your teammates to be in position.I'm very glad he got the pick six, but watch the replay again. He abandoned a receiver that was wide open in the endzone that could have easily been six for NCST.
Maybe he had an exceptional read on the QB's eyes when he chose to jump to the other receiver, but it looked like he was very fortunate not to give up a TD.
I agree the opposite safety was heading over, but he was still too far away and really didn't have a shot at making a play. If the receiver was hit in stride he would have strolled into the endzone. The opposite safety was already heading over and prob would have had a play in the ball if he throws deep. We could argue whether that was right or wrong all day long but in the heat of the moment will Brooks made the right call and it took him to the house. If Eric berry made that same play you wouldn't criticize him at all because he was a 5*. You're doing it now because Brooks is a walk on and you have preconceived notions about it.I agree the opposite safety was heading over, but he was still too far away and really didn't have a shot at making a play. There was another view from the opposite endzone where you could see the other safety sliding over, but I can't find that replay.
I made an observation and shared it on a football message board. Anyone who watches the replay with an open mind can see the same thing. But you've figured it out... I apparently hate it when walk-ons are successful. We could argue whether that was right or wrong all day long but in the heat of the moment will Brooks made the right call and it took him to the house. You keep neglecting to mention the immense pressure he was under. You're all seeing something different than I am... he was wide open running torward the endzone, with the ball still in the QB's hands.
Brooks looks like a starter or just like we have on Oline, a backup that will sub for multiple spots in the secondary and get LOTS of playing time because he knows exactly what everyone should be doing, and where they should be on every play. He knows our defense inside out and back to front because he is sharp and a hard worker. Lost on lots of people these days who only look at star ratings (and skin color if we are being honest, never expecting a white guy to start at DB) is the intelligence factor. There are lots of great athletes who will never be great players at safety, LB, QB, and even WR because they simply can't learn the playbook and know where they should be (and their teammates) on every snap. I can name several former UT players that never reached their athletic potential in the NFL because they simply arent smart enough or won't study. I hope Boo isn't one of them so he can be a starter now at Star from day 1. If he doesn't, it won't be due to athletic ability...it will be because he cannot do it mentally.
There are a few players SO gifted they can be even solid NFL players despite not having it between the ears, like C.P. who never could learn the playbook at UT or the Vikings. There are some positions where you do not need to make reads or learn a playbook, so great athletes can flourish regardless. ( DE Julius Peppers can barely speak English. No way he reads or writes on a 3rd grade level) Peppers was a ProBowl caliber player who signed a $100 million contract, one of the 1st players to do so in the NFL. Brooks doesn't have incredible physical talents like some other players but he has enough talent, intelligence, experience, and dedication that his 4* peers cannot take the job from him and keep him off the field. The coaches love Brooks and I think he will make a name for himself this season.
He was not responsible for the outside guy once the shift occurred. He was responsible for the boundary right where he was. Slow down the play frame by frame. The outside db had the route to the ez. He made the right read.I'm very glad he got the pick six, but watch the replay again. He abandoned a receiver that was wide open in the endzone that could have easily been six for NCST.

Wills Brooks is the Rod Wilkes we deserved.
I am gonna rewatch the game today. I couldnt tell from the stands yesterday who forced and recovered those fumbles etc. Same for some of the plays on offense when they were on the far end of the field. Just too far away to tell...my vision may have been a little blurry as well though in all honesty. Haha. GO VOLSMore than once yesterday. I heard "Touchdown Tennessee!" and "Give him six!", seemed like a few times.
The ball is already gone at this point so has zero relevance .... look over the leaping defenders head Brooks is already in his break to the ball dude. He was where he was supposed to be. His Responsibilty was the Quarter.I agree the opposite safety was heading over, but he was still too far away and really didn't have a shot at making a play. If the receiver was hit in stride he would have strolled into the endzone.

Don't worry, the negas will return at the slightest opportunity, they always do. Let ole Will miss a tackle, or give up a few 1st downs or a score, and the negas will be right back in full force. You bet your house on that and win the whole casino.Where all you Negas that trashed Brooks in this thread now that his 85yard pick six blew the game wide open last night??? I was there and loved it btw.
Where yall Negas saying Banks is no good ? Our defense hasnt surrendered a TD in 3 plus games. Nico has scored more points AGAINST UT than the defense has allowed in the last 3 games.
Bunch of posters in this thread looking really damn stupid right now for trashing Brooks, Banks, Martinez, and our defense. Brooks in particular blew that game WIDE open. NCSU was down what 10-3 and in our redzone...that HUGE pick six flipped it from likely 10-6 or 10-10 to instead 17-3 VOLS and the rout was on. I lost my voice in the 3rd quarter, but my NCSU grad little brother sitting next to me screamed " that was a backbreaker" when Brooks ran past us for that TD. Game. Over.
Maybe this camera angle will help, as this is the one I had referenced in a previous comment that showed a better view of the play. You keep neglecting to mention the immense pressure he was under.
He had to get rid of it or eat it. He chose to get rid of it an Will was right there where he wanted to be.
This camera angle isn’t showing the deep support.
