Let's compare Jesus and Muhammed (and debate homosexuality) (and Tombstone).

Scala steps:

What's the significance of doing it in 2021?

Every eleven, six, and five years (in that order) his Feast Day falls on a Sunday and those are considered "Holy Years". Last year, 2010, his Feast Day was on a Sunday. The next is 2021 then 2027 and 2032.

Feast Day? God gets hungry only every so often?

Why up on knees? I'd walk up, slowly, taking in every image I can from each side.

According to tradition, it is done out of respect and veneration for Jesus' suffering. There are also prescribed prayers for each step, which take anywhere from thirty seconds to two minutes to recite. There are 28 steps, so it takes about forty minutes to an hour to get to the top...more than enough time to take in the art (although, the art is the last thing anyone is thinking of on those steps).

Going up on my knees was easily one of the most painful things I have ever done (and, I have done a lot of painful things).

You have a good deal of knowledge about several different religions. Not that it means anything, but I am impressed with your knowledge. Unless I am totally mistaken(and that is a distinct possibility), you seem to no longer subscribe to a religion with which you are very familiar. I do have a personal question, I mean ABSOLUTELY no offense by it, and of course, you don't have to answer. If you would answer, but would like to do it privately, PM me.

What has transpired or what conclusions have you reached in your life that have influenced your current views on religion? Once again, I mean no disrespect. I think you see that I try not to operate that way, and I will not try to 'preach' to you. I would just like to understand why you feel the way you do. Thanks for entertaining my question regardless of your decision to answer or not. :hi:

I grew up in a Roman Catholic household with a Southern Baptist mother (who eventually converted to Catholicism). Myself and my three siblings all attended Catholic Schools and were privy to both Catholic practice and Baptist practice. I also grew up in a household that encouraged/demanded a great amount of reading and reasonable discourse.

Over time and through different readings and experiences, I have come to a place where I know I have never received any personal revelation regarding Christianity. I am still a theist, however, from a purely academic standpoint, Christianity rings no truer for me than does Hinduism or Islam. Realizing this, I also realized it was disingenuous for me to continue going to Mass and lying once a week (Profession of Faith, Eucharist, etc). I continue to study a lot of theology and philosophy, and I keep that window open; however, as of right now I do not believe and I have never truly believed.

I think the final straw that broke the camels back happened when I was in Rome. I was in San Giovani Cathedral and I went I spoke to the priest to try to figure out if he had any personal revelation or how he knew. He, as well as numerous other priests I have spoken with, could not provide me with an answer. He "just knew". I don't "just know".

Thanks for sharing. I mean this with sincerity; I truly hope that you find what you are seeking.

Speaking from personal experience, I have felt no greater joy than when my beliefs were, for lack of a better term, 'revealed' to me. I had no Damascus road dramatic revelation, but it was very personal and powerful, and very real to me. As I have said, if I can be of any help in any way, all you (or anyone) has to do is ask. :salute:

Mohammed was a pedophile who is burning in hell.

His adherents at one point in time did not suck militarily (as they currently do without exception) but they have always excelled in attacking civilians, raping and enslaving them.

Currently almost all of the human slavery in the world is Muslim, and most of the terrorists are Muslim as well. Islam is certainly not a religion of peace.

Oh man. Did this thread also contain a conversation about Catholicism?

Yeesh...

I do not apologize for the "sins" of Christianity against civilians because I do not believe many of those who claimed the name of Christ (including the Borgia lech) were Christians at all, much less inerrant.

By Borgia, are you referring to the Pope?
