Gundy can tie his coaching tree back to Johnny Majors in some ways. According to Wikipedia.

I'd much rather have Stoops. But I'd rather have Gundy than Golden or Fisher. Just don't think Gundy is a great recruiter.

Id be fine with gundy as would thousands of others. But hes don just average at ok state. He has turned it around past three years though and got better every year. His first years were attrocious. He also had a gunslinger and helluva WR corp. Only thing id worry about is the defensive side

Face it...Stoops, Patterson and Petersen hve about as much chance of coming here as Gruden does. Gundy is an interesting coach that doesn't get much credit but many forget just what conference OSU is in not to mention being in the shadow of Stoops and Oklahoma especially with recruiting.

He was the OC for three years there under no other than Les Miles and when Miles left in 2004 for LSU he became the HC. Has a 66-34 record. The Cowboys finished 6th in 2011 and 10th in 2010...not to bad considering the conference with Teaxas, TCU, Kansas St and Oklahoma.

I would offer him a million dollar raise(to 4.75 million) right now to take the UT job. Tell him to bring Monken along and he would get a 200,000.00 raise(to 800 grand). Go get Chavis as DC for 1.1 million and we are ready to go. Tell Gundy on his way to Knoxville stop off at TCU and pick up Randy Shannon to come coach LB's here. Graham stay, Pittman stays. Fill in the staff with a mix of his guys and SEC ties type assistants Chavis could bring in. 2013 would be alot of fun IMO.

I say let Shannon be the DC and bring Steele in as LB coach/recruiting cord. I'm on board with the rest of your plan!

Okay, now that gets me on board.

If you don't have a killer staff who can recruit the lights out, it's not gonna work period.

I could deal with that staff. Definitely.

Would be a good option. With Shannon coaching LBs at TCU, I would think he could be hired as DC much cheaper than Chavis. 750,000 should do it. Steele at LB's coach at 325,000 would work. Id love to see us get Terry Joseph back from Nebraska as DBs coach. He makes 260,000 there. He was a great recruiter and the players seemed to like him alot.

Gundy is probably the best in the country at finding really damn good assistants. Fedora, Brewer, Holgs and now Monken have each been trying to break the records of their predecessors.

I will get Ole Dave Hart on the horn and tell him the boys over at VolNation have got this thing figured out for him. He can stay in Knoxville. I'll head to Stillwater and get it done. :hi:

I think Chavis makes around $1 million now--or close to it--and he won't return to UT to be DC again. Been there, done that. Plus he was pissed when Fulmer got sacked. Plus he's gets to work with strong talent at lsu.
