Let's Keep Pearl

Pearl is by far, not the end all be all to basketball, and if he is shopping himself now, he'll damn sure do it later. Him going to Memphis will be a PR nightmare for him.

Hat, who all would UT's "search committee" be comprised of if it got to that point?

I agree about the PR nightmare. I asked a related question on another thread and got no responses:

When was the last time a D1 coach left his current job to take another (same-level) coaching job in the same state?

I couldn't think of any, but I could be wrong.

Not being able to come up with a name off the top of your head should tell you something about how successful that venture is.

I know. The only one I could think of was Pitino moving from UK to UL but that was not a direct move. Surely, this has happened in some larger states (Texas, California) but i don't know.

For Pearl to take the Memphis job in a city that has more UT fans than UM fans would definitely take some guts.

Gillispie UTEP to AM

Thats right, we did get Billy from UTEP. But, I guess that shows my disdain and or lack of respect for t.u and their affiliated schools. completely forgot that one.

How can otherwise seemingly sane people believe in burning bushes, resurrections, and people taking up residence in a whale's belly?

Probably from some of the same fools who believe that life can spontaneously erupt from non-life without the intervention of an outside source. Or that mutations are actually advantageous to the survival of a species. Or someone who thinks that the there is no God (in the classic, fully intended Judeo-Christian sense, alone).

You know, fools like that.

They're not comparable anyway... New York City is closer to Knoxville than El Paso is to College Station. And how many UTEP fans live in College Station. If Pearl leaves UT. He better head out of state.

So? Because somebody else overpays we should redo somebody's contract?

Hat, I understand that you don't think CBP is a top levle coach worthy of top level pay. Why is that? Is it solely based on performance on the court? What you have to remember is that like it or not this is a business and CBP can sell. What was basketball sales/exposure pre BP and then after? If I ran a business that made $10 today then hired someone and tomorrow he brought in $30 and had everyone in the country talking about it well then I have to keep him. I don't care If people were telling me that paying him was not worth it. All I would be able to see was the bottom line and bottom line is CBP brings in the dollars and exposure.

One other point I'd like to throw out there. If CBP never won another game but kept the money rolling in then is would still be wise to give him a raise. This is a BUSINESS here to make money. While most times WINS=more money with CBP there is an excitement about UT basketball that I have not seen in my lifetime. Can you put a price tag on that?

Yeah, let Tyler and Wayne go pro and we'll see how much "excitement" there is for Tennessee's first round game in the 2010 CBI.

This is the second or third time today someone has brought up this "Enthusiastic coach", or "excitement in TBA" drivel. Does it take someone painting their already bronzed chest orange, and wearing snazzy sports coats to make you feel good?

My goodness, if he wants to hang the University over a barrel, give him his walking papers and rent him a Uhaul.

Wow, so no evolution whatsoever then, right? A 6,000-year-old Earth with humans and dinosaurs living together and all that?

Hasn't this year proven that if the program isn't winning then the excitement WON'T stay up? I thought all the bellyaching was about how "negative" the fan base has become. TBA wasn't packed and rocking this year every game.

Pearl doesn't win the excitement quickly goes down the toliet.

I entirely agree. My post was hard to decipher, but I was trying to use D's parlance in making fun of his point.
