Let's talk about Justin Worley

I think I recall 2 beautifully thrown 9 routes by Worley in his very limited play last year... both were dropped, one by Patterson, one by Hunter (actually hit him in the face mask iirc).

OK and as much as you all say bray this, bray that. He made a lot more great throws than bad ones.....Zro toe drag against USCe for example

Worley wasn't and shouldnt have been the starter last year

If you say so. Apparently there are those evaluators out there that seem be pushing for that lunacy based on a few starts and a spring game. Thank God we (me included) are not on the coaching staff.

Don't care who it is.....I just want whoever gives us the best chance to win

for those that haven't seen any of his high lights

Northwestern vs South Pointe; Aug. 28, 2010 - YouTube

i know this isn't at the college level, but he looked pretty damn good and i know it is a high light film, but looks like he has pretty good arm strength to me and accurate also,I'm hoping the freshmen don't start this year, that means things are really bad at the quarterback position, hopefully they will redshift this year

I've seen what the kid has, I think we all have, and I don't care much for it. I'd rather see a freshman like Dobbs come up front. The biggest argument I constantly see against Dobbs is that he hasn't taken a single snap in a college game. Well you know what, Worley has and he didn't do shlt with it.

He smacked Justin Hunter's face mask with the ball, in the end zone.

So you saw him as a freshman get to thrown to the dogs? Saw CP run the wrong route and cause a INT? Saw him hit JH for a touchdown only to be dropped? Or maybe the same exact thing with DR against SC. But you want another true freshman who hasnt put on a helmet yet and also weighs about190lbs with his uniform on and rocks stuffed in his pants to get thrown to the wolves all over? Yeaaa makes sense

I'll be the first one to admit high school tape may not amount to a hill of beans, but with Dobbs those tapes and early reports are all we have to go on. He may be awful for all I know. But him being a true freshman does not exclude him from consideration (especially for a kid who is mature beyong his years). Manning, Ainge, Bray did pretty well as true freshman in the SEC and that's just from UT.

While Worley's HS tape was also good, I have a lot more information (better information) to draw on for an opinion about him as a QB. JMHO, I've seen him in big games, mop up duty, spring games, and frankly I thought he was below average in every situation. I feel like we have a much better idea of what we have in Worley and from my vantage point, it is not impressive. I felt the exact same way with Simms.

Worley was put into some tough situations we he got meaningful playing time as far as mop up duty what qb looks that great in mop up duty. People keep talking how bad the qb's looked in the O&W game but last years O&W didn't look much better.

In college QB's generally come into their own during their Jr//Sr seasons. While there are exceptions that do well as freshman, most do not since they don't know the playbook or timing down (fewer reps in practice)

That said, we should see an improved and more confident Worley this year. He's got the chance to make a name for himself this year as our leader and expect to see Peterman get a look at times to mix it up since they have different skill sets (be like a wildcat that is a throwing threat as well). The 2 freshnmen will get time to learn and hopefully redshirt at least one of them

At the risk of sounding irreverent - Peyton looked worse in his early game(s) than Worley did last year IMO. The Florida debacle comes to mind most prominently when he and Stewart were sharing time. I certainly do not expect him (Worley) to be Peyton, but if the staff determines he's the best choice, I'm all for it. Just to be clear, at the time, I thought Brandon Stewart looked better than Peyton in that particular game ( though, honestly, neither looked even passable). Turns out Coach Cut knew more about quarterbacks than I did - Who'd a thunk?

Dobbs will get broken in half by the likes of Florida, Georgia, Alabama and Clowney. He's way skinnier than Bray was his freshman year. No sense getting the possible future hurt by putting him in to soon. Let him bulk up a bit.

Pretty sure Dobbs is 6'3", 190lbs. Bray was 6'6", 180lbs at the most.

I thought that Stewart looked better at one time myself. I agree with your post.

Bray was listed at 6'6" and 210lbs his freshman year. Currently (and I'm sure he is already getting bigger), Dobbs is listed at 6'3" and 193lbs.

I guess my point was that Dobbs or Ferguson will be our future. One missed assignment on the OL (and I know our OL is very good) and one of these guys might get clobbered before their careers even get started.

I personally think that Worley will be better than most give him credit. I know he hasn't shown much when he was thrown to the wolves in 2011 (i.e. playing a true freshman before he was ready) and in mop up duty last year.

But there is no doubt we have better coaching this year and I personally think Worley will be a solid short pass, game management style player. That could be a very good combination behind a veteran OL, Neal/Lane/Hill, and very inexperienced WR's.

Peterman will do a great job and I hope that he gets the starting spot. I believe he is our leader of the future!

At this point, and its noting against Worley, I think it should be Peterman, Ferguson, or Dobbs. Again, nothing against Worley. I just think that with the immense amount of talent we have coming in during the next couple of years, we need someone to step up now and lead the team through these next 3 or 4 years. Granted Worley has a slight edge when it comes to experience, but IMO, that goes out the window. Best of luck to all of the competing QBs and may the best man win!

Lot of questions to be answered. He may step up in the fall and take the job by force. He may stubble around enough that a younger guy is worth taking the lumps with.

Be nice to have a better feel for what the position will provide this year but I don't see it right now.

At this point all we can really hope for is a good game manager from which ever QB gets the start. I don't expect much. So I think it'll be Worley at least at the start of the season. We may see a rotation of QBs depending on game situations.

I think the first game will be the deciding factor. If Worley comes in and struggles through the first few series, then I can see CBJ hand the keys to Peterman for a while and see how it all shakes out.

We have so much size at WR, I personally think Worley will shine....but who knows? CBJ might think think Peterman's mobility gives him the edge.
