You mean 80% of the military vote republican. Two totally different things. There are plenty of moderate liberal types that vote republican BECAUSE they are in the military. Same can be said for many in the upper class of wealth. Many of the FDR democrats were conservatives by nature, which is why a lot of WWII vets, especially the brass, voted democratically even though their basic ideology was conservative
It's all about who has the bigger flag on their t-shirt. I'm patriotic during the Olympic games, but even then sometimes I'll root for other countries. I'm a global citizen.

People that say that really don't know how unique & rare the American way of life is when compare to any other government, tribe, empire, kingdom that has ever been through our global history.
We have our problems but our people take for granted the freedoms that we share and the abundance and blessings that God has granted us. and the liberties our Republic has afforded us.
I am not down on people of other countries, but i am not in accordance with the Communists, Jihads, Socialists, Dictators, etc of the world...so count me out of that part of the Global citizenship.

No. Patriotism in a pure form would be voluntary devotion to ideals. Nationalism is generally manipulated devotion to ideals.
I love it when I'm labeled unpatriotic after I state I don't support our military efforts in the Middle East.
I'm open to different ideologies. And by jihads, I assume you mean terrorist or holy war jihads, not regular, peaceful Muslim jihads.
The liberties of the Republic are shared by many other countries around the world. Some countries even go steps further in each of those freedoms, i.e., freedom of the press in most European countries is greater than in the US.
Please don't mix up our Founders view of a Republic and what it has become today. Also you need to understand the differences between a democracy and a Republic. At a glance the French revolution and the American Revoulution may have been similiar but there is stark contrast between the rights of individuals and collective (mob rules) rights between the two.
Sadly our Republic Today isn't what it was ever meant to be today thinks to decades of government beauracracy and leaders such as FDR, WIlson, Nixon, BO and even Bush, both parties have had a hand in this.
I wouldn't label you that way. I am skeptical as well.
I think our foreign policy should be MUCH more black and white than it is. We too often try to play both sides against the middle. We should side with countries that a) share our values on human rights and b) show the intent to live peacably with us and their neighbors. We WAY over complicate things. IMHO, that's why most of the world hates or resents us.
