A name were overlooking is Briles. My first choice would be Briles, then Freeze. Briles just turned down a HC job, which would indicate he'd stick around longer and his offenses are explosive. It's a spread mixed with pro. Look at the teams offensive performances under him. Baylor, Houston, and how much Kiffin fell without him. Freeze is a bandaid. We're building for longterm, not a season or 2, only to turn around and start over. Freeze is likely gone in 2 years. Screw Enos, Drinkwitz, and Chip. Let's go get Briles

I thought the same thing but would Malzahn want to hire his potential replacement? I don’t think we’re going to get Freeze for the same reason. I fully expect us to hire some can of corn OC that the sheep will try to spin as a great hire.

I can guarantee Pruitt isn't worried about hiring a Coach who could be his replacement. It's one thing to hire him as an OC but no chance in hell Fulmer would ever trust Freeze enough to run the football program. As an OC he would be closely monitored and not have the freedom a HC would have.

You do realize that the 2 game suspension regarding Freeze was only if he accepted a HEAD COACH position....not OC . He is good to go.

"Not bad" or "pretty good" would probably work at Bama or a number of other established schools, but Pruitt is a first time head coach with a defense background and a first time DC trying to rebuild. He needs a proven, established OC that he can turn the offense over to while he focuses on being a HC and bringing along CKS. Freeze could not only do that, he would be in immediate shot in the recruiting arm. Chip Lindsey wasn't trusted by Malzahn and the tendency to interfere will be too great for a new HC in this position.

It wasn't His not trusting Lindsey, Gus is just a control freak and has to have his hand in the offense, like Butch. Chip had. Control of the offense last year but this season Gus went back to his old ways. Exactly why Chip wants out of Auburn. Auburn also had no RB's and an OLine who couldn't protect Stidham. I believe we get freeze but if not Chip would be a great back up plan.
