Also, apparently their grounds keeper that used to keep that field looking like Augusta National retired…. and now it’s eaten up with army worms and looks kinda’ rough …
Yeah, the field looked pretty rough this past weekend. Hopefully it won't become a factor

This is informative- I was thinking I knew y’all had played more marquee games … and yes I remember the ND game being a huge deal. It always is when they show up- we had them at Neyland a coupla’ times under Fulmer- and I especially remember y’all kicking OSU’s butt in Columbus- that was great -
Gameday was here for Ohio State in 2015. We get Gameday for OU/ Texas RRR occasionally but we’ve beat Texas last 11-15 and a few times in Stillwater for Bedlam.

VQ had a former OU player and current staffer on their podcast this morning. This guy was talking about how injured their OL and WRs are. Several staters out. Yeah their defense is healthy but if we play up to our potential, I can easily see another blowout win.

I grew up watching the OU vs NE matchups in the 70s, was some awesome football. Being in TN and being TN fans we always followed OU since I had a distant cousin that played WR for them.

Spent 8.5 hours in the car driving from New Orleans to South Carolina today - listened to sports animal and the OU station out of Norman all day - those folks are very concerned that UT is going to smack them around …. Radio host on one show made several comments that this was the biggest game and weekend there since the year 2000 when Stoops (and Heupel) beatdown Texas Tech, that he can’t remember a bigger game in 25 years. Other sentiment was they mostly feel they will need to score 30 to win….
And that this will be very difficult to do…
I have a feeling this game is going to turn into a fist fight the first half and our Vols starting finding themselves in the second, we gotta remember this is this teams first sec road game and theirs a lot of unknowns in that area but I’m fully confident we can figure it out but we may experience some growing pains. I just don’t wanna see this board meltdown if we don’t win by 30

I’m not really concerned about our defense’s ability to contain their offense. I would be shocked if they score 24 or more. I think it will come down to our run game and to what extent their defense and rowdy environment disrupts Nico and/or forces turnovers.
PAW, one thing that seems to be ignored by most is Jackson Arnold's ability and actual propensity to scramble......and it has been years since we contained such a qb (Im thinking of the frustration of watching Ole Miss' Matt Corral just kill us on scrambles... plus others). So there is much to prove in this huge game on so many fronts.
In my view we MUST score north of 30 to win. I think OU will score more than most expect.

Honestly, I would take a one point win and leave town happy.

I ain’t gonna lie, this is the kind of game that scares the crap outta me (all the praise going for the Vols). But I love that we are back in this situation! Thanks coach Heupel!
Just remember at Florida last year. We were thought to win that game and were a favorite. I hope they learned a lesson from it. Go Vols!!!

Why is it such a big game for them? They obviously aren't competing for a Championship this season. I'd argue it's a bigger game for us than it is them.
Because it’s there first game as a member of the SEC and it’s against a opponent currently in the Top 6.

A win for OK would do a whole lot for their reputation moving forward. A big loss would kill all the momentum they have entering the league.

I wonder how many possessions Tennessee can KEEP them from scoring a touchdown...

The longer it goes...the more pressure they will have. COME ON (Elite!) DEFENSE!!!!

This is a very common sense post. I agree totally.

Jayden Daniels ring a bell? Our defense is better than Houston’s and Tulane’s. Now, he could have his coming out party, but it’s unlikely.

Just made 9-hour trip from Nashville to Myrtle Beach. N.O. to S.C. in less seems pretty rocket-like.:cool:
9 hours from Nashville to MB ain't nothing to sneeze at. Man, Southwest has cheap flights directly from Nashville to Charleston (maybe MB too). Charleston's less than 2 hours from MB. Should have saved your back...lol.

I think your take is spot on. Every DC so far has sold out to stop the deep ball which allowed our running game to tee off. I think Venables is savvy enough to understand that our running game is what really makes our offense click. I expect Venables to try to scheme to stop the run and harass Nico as he hasn't really been tested yet. I think that strategy will fail, but it's probably their best shot.
