I think your take is spot on. Every DC so far has sold out to stop the deep ball which allowed our running game to tee off. I think Venables is savvy enough to understand that our running game is what really makes our offense click. I expect Venables to try to scheme to stop the run and harass Nico as he hasn't really been tested yet. I think that strategy will fail, but it's probably their best shot.
The new wrinkle helps in the run game so much. Having 2 TE sets is a problem for teams. TN now has the ability to run 2 TE and still beat you over the top. Once this offense finds its stride it will be scary.

If they think they need to score 30 to win, they’re probably going to be very surprised.

Vegas has the total at 58. Okie has a defense, good LBS & Excellent DBS & well coached. UT has the Dline edge, maybe suspect in the back end. It will be tight. Defense will probably rule. 33-23 UT.

We have beat teams with combined 2-7 record against not so salty competition.
This is our first real game! It will be interesting to see how we compete? I think it will be a struggle and heck of a game! Comes down to turnovers and depth. We have had some turnover issues. We have depth - but also guys haven’t played full games with 4th quarter and game still on the line. Don’t shoot messenger! But we don’t really know how good we are or are not till Saturday? I trust Heup and thid team to be prepared and play hard though. OU will also compete hard and fight as they have been for wins as well, expect a hell of a fight!

Venables has a business decision to make. He might need Arnold to run a lot in this game but that runs a decent chance he gets beat up or worse against Tenn DL. If Arnold gets hurt, their season takes another look(6-6 might be the ceiling at best). Does he protect Arnold to have him next week at Aub, then a bye before Texas?

Venables/OU will be playing to win and not sure how that affects Arnold’s play.

Arnold will be the one making a business decision at some point during the match

Hopefully he makes a bunch of bad ones

It takes 8 1/2 hours at least to get from far Northern Illinois to Paris Landing area. Alot of incredibly boring driving through Central and Southern Illinois....then when it gets to Paducah it gets somewhat interesting. If you take hwy 51 through Illinois to Cairo you go through a crapload of small towns and you're talking 10 hours...but there's a cool ferry boat in Cairo that's fun.

The thing that scares me is the 'slow start'. A quick turn over and score by OU early would make this a very tight game. If we avoid that, we should be good.

Yep. I make that drive a lot - I usually make it down there in right at 8 hours flat. Coming back I get slowed down by ATL traffic- going down there I roll through ATL at approx 6 am. Coming back it’s usually 3pm and a whole different deal.
Is that with only 1 stop on the trip?? I'm asking because I go from middle GA to Memphis and it's about 7 hrs and 15 or so minutes. It's about the same if I take ATL thru Birmingham or I take Columbus thru Montgomery.

Yep, a higher ranked team and Favored over your team is huge for motivation. That's what College Football is about. The Uk/Ga game is a prime example. The Vols have to go in there and match the intensity, and deal with that super loud crowd. It will be tough for the first half, and Tennessee must take the crowd out of the game. Take the first possession down the field and score. Hold them, and score again. That is the Ideal scenario for a Volunteer.

If the sooners cant run the ball they wont get to 14
Agreed. It looks like their QB is their biggest running threat. I would also expect them to run a lot of screens and swing passes to test our LB's ability to cover in space.

We’ve schedule you far in advance but you were down. Ohio State beat us good here in 2015 but we drilled them in Columbus under Meyer and heavily favored. FSU & Miami were down when they visited. ND was here about 12 years ago when they went to the CFP and beat us and we beat them there the next year. Penn State has not been here. So ND & Ohio State were bigger games but we weren’t a dog vs ND but were Ohio State. But it’s the most points we’ve been an underdog at home since 1998.
I have nothing bad to say about the OU Football program because if it wasn’t for you we wouldn’t have our awesome CJH. As a follower of college football, I’m sure you know that we’ve wandered thru the wilderness for a long time with a lot of frogs 🐸 before we found our new Prince 🤴. We are cautiously optimistic that he will return us to an elite level that challenges for titles. You never know, but so far, we are crazy about our former Sooner star Quarterback . 😃

We can assume Okie will try to establish the run. They will assume Tennessee will be looking to stop the run, so they might try a trick play or two. Gotta be disciplined on Defense. Look for OK to try throwing over our LBs and test our secondary. This is the game we really need James Pierce to show out. Keep the QB on the ground, and also contain, cuz he is a good runner.

Yeah 51 goes all the way to Rockford from Cairo. Go thru a bunch of small towns. It doesn't go south from Illinois I don't think. In Paducah you either go on 24 towards Nashville or West toward Memphis. I think.

Wow, if Tennessee beats up on OU, Auburn is the beneficiary. FORGET TEXAS. Big Azz whipping coming. But, one could see an 0-3 run for them.

Tbh, I dont know how much they will run Arnold, yes he is their run threat, but the way our guys have been laying the lumber is it worth the risk long term?

James Pierce may not be showing up on the stat sheet, but he has been very impactful. Taking on double teams, allowing the other 3 guys to get pressure more easily. Also dropping him back in pass coverage aswell.

There are just too many unknown variables for me to try and predict a game like this. I don't fault anyone for feeling really confident based on how the Vols overwhelmed lesser opponents. This just feels like a game where things won't go as expected. In other words, I don't think this will be a run away. I hate to always bring up SC '22 but that game made me never want to be overconfident for any game.

Yes - I typically stop one time to pee and for gas (and I’m on fumes when I do) in the middle of LA …. Lower Alabama.

Double teams or not, I’m thinking he’s going to make a big splash in this nationally televised game against a big name opponent.
