Yeah... and we all know that when Rivals or Scout gives a player their 4th star they automatically become better athletes and football players.

Dooley is apparently using a formula that accounts for raw ability, intelligence, and character. We will see if it works... I am personally optimistic about it.

noticed that, it is interesting.....he seems to be laying a base of solid accessible players.

hey scotty....hop on into the ignore list, my man....dont do whiny pessimism.

I'd rather have a 5 star drama queen than a 3 star. They will stay out of trouble, stay in school and not preen for a transfer. I don't know. I could be wrong about this!!!!!

I agree with this.

I am not going to run around this site acting like a nancy boy about recruiting in July, but I do have a question. Why do some believe that three stars are generally more character hard workers while the five stars are not?

You guys do remember that Luke Stocker was a 3 star recruit coming out of HS right? Well, look how that turned out, you cant always rely on stars to determine how good a player is. I trust this staff on who they're offering.

It's just the underdog mentality. You want to believe that these guys will perform above and beyond their current skill level. The flip side of that is believing that a 4-5 star guy is a mortal lock for the NFL.

4-5 stars are nice to have but are not mandatory for a good team. If we want 4-5 star players in the future we need a good team to build on first.

I wouldn't say "generally" but there seems to be some association. Five star guys tend to have gotten more special treatment and "passes" on behavior because of their ability. They tend to be more prima donna.

It isn't universal by any stretch. Many 5* guys have great character and work ethics. Some lower rated guys are nothing but trouble. But by my estimation the higher rated players are a little more susceptible to the type of pride that gets young guys in trouble.

Of course being a UT fan jades you somewhat on this since the Vols have had so many 4-5* busts in the last 5 years or so.

You guys get over the STARS, there are many more 3 and 4 star players in the NFL than 5 stars. Its all about heart, not being a so called prima dona like Bryce Brown the # 1 recruit last year who showed me nothing last year, now look what the 5 star is doing now. Coach Dooley and his staff know their needs and can reconize talent when they see it. All the negative about 3 stars does not help us recruit. Recruits can read and see our repleys. Lets be POSITIVE. GO VOLS

So no 5 stars work or try hard?

like your avatar, and really enjoyed dublin....
sure they work hard too...but in reference to the question, i think the less talented have to work harder to compete at the more talented level...i would use nick reviez as an example. i think that struggle helps build characteristics that are positive and also less of a sense of entitilement which can hurt a team....ie BB

I am tired of the stars debate. Recruits from all walks of life make it to the NFL. However, the majority of the kids that play college football won't make it to the pros any how. Regardless of the stars, there are a lot of factors that have to be considered. There are 3 star thugs and 5 star thugs and vice versa. There are also diamonds in the rough. Its too early to tell if this class will pan out or not. GET OVER IT...
