Local news confirm Downs and Crowder will commit to UT

If they are 3 stars now they will be 2 stars after they commit to the Vols. Rivals loves us :)

Either way I am excited about these two boys. They are greatly needed :)

I am starting to think Rivals Stars are equivalent to the stars in Grand Theft Auto for their wanted level by the police the way we have been in trouble lately.

I doubt Dooley gets on Rivals and checks the star ratings to decide what players to recruit. It is my understanding that recruiting has a completely different process that doesn't include coaches depending on Rivals to spot talent.

How many stars did Montori Hughes have?

yea you guys ever read the article of coker using recruiting sites to find prospects..that was the downfall of miami..and its funny cuz in coker's last class the best players were 3 stars haha

I think better than stars, is to look at who else is recruiting the player. The teams that are at the top, Fla. Bama, Texas, etc are who we need to be competing with. We are not doing so well on that front and that worries me.... It is what it is though...

You have a point here, and that's what I do for sure.

I think we understate how important stars are too. They do have some indication of success on the football field. Bama and Texas are two cases that illustrate that high star power helps with success. Sure you can pull a Utah beats Bama example, but overall talent is important and stars have some correlation to winning on the field.

This class has some needs that will not translate into star power. A class full of O linemen that are three stars means nothing really. That is a position that is very hard to evaluate. I trust the coaches to make the right evals

We need to shore up our weaknesses and if we get fantastic DTs and O linemen than we are in great shape for the future!

I know I'm repeating what a lot of folks have already said, but I firmly believe that adding kids like Crowder and Downs is a very solid move for laying a foundation. Not only do they have great potential, but they are extremely intelligent and good character guys.

To me this will translate onto the field in a positive manner because they will be able to pickup the playbook/blocking schemes, etc quickly and be able to contribute early.

You are that guy. The fan who gives fans a bad name. You are that guy who complains that there should have been a pass interference call, although the ball was tipped at the line of scrimmage.

You are that guy who complains that it should be intentional grounding even though the QB was out of the tackle box and the ball made it past the LOS.

Yes, you are that guy.

You are that guy who thinks that the referees always cost you the game.

You are that guy who thinks that he is the second coming of Tom Landry when in reality you're closer to Tom Arnold.

Yes, you are that guy.

So thank you sir, for being that guy. Because frankly, someone has to be him so it might as well be you.

MC,

I def. Read that about coker, using a recruiting service as a guide isn't a problem, but using it as the basis & not doing doing due dilligence is just utterly stupid

cool. I'll take my team of 2 and 3 stars.

Sam Bradford, Colt McCoy, Matt Leinart, Matt Ryan, Joe Flacco, Marcell Dareus, Chris Johnson, Darrelle Revis, Patrick Willis, James Lauranaitas, Paul Posluszny, Malcolm Jenkins, Dexter McCluster, Russell Okung, and Dan Williams.

OWNED. Vader is the man.

I'm happy for both Brendan and Mack. It's always great to see some of the kids in East Tennessee get a chance. I like Brendan's size a lot and he should have a pretty good future here. As for Mack, how can you complain about getting a guy scout rates as the #7 center, rivals as #13, and ESPN as #7 regardless of stars. Kid has talent.

I find it difficult to be excited about how many "stars" a 17-year old kid has beside his name. I am confident CDD & staff know all about these young men. I'm stoked!

When did I ever say 2 and 3 stars couldn't be good? My point was generalizing, like the poster I was quoting did turns out poorly as there are good 2 and 3 stars, just as there are good 5 stars.

FWIW, the percentage of 5 stars who have gone on to be first round picks is higher than the percentage of 2 and 3 star players. And my team will still beat your team.

Stars have a lot to with what teams offer a player. Are players are being offered by Big East teams and bottom of the SEC teams.

You think Coaches are going on what Scout and Rivals say?! Wow, you must not understand how evaluation works.

Va tech doesn't play in the SEC. Everybody knows VaTech's schedule was so easy especially when they were in the Big Least, and even the ACC is not so tough. Just saying

I POSTED ON GO VOLS XTRA earlier today about how boise state has 2-3* players and they would beat us like a drum. And i thought outside of bama ,florida, and ole miss boise state would have beat anyone we played in the regular season last year.So i agree with most of guys that say stars mean nothing. And Boise State will give Va. Tech a better game than we did. That game will go to the wire book it.Now if they played 7 times Va tech would win 6 of them. But for one game i think Boise St. has a good chance with their 2and3* players.Go Vols.

A Big Least team thumped georgia in the Sugar Bowl a few years ago with a freshman tailback named Steve Slaton and a freshman QB named Pat White.
